Just two years after its first appearance at ProLight&Sound, EtherSound has been adopted by some of the major players in the pro audio industry. To demonstrate this, Digigram, in association with all its current licensees, created a site-wide network to demonstrate the fast expansion of EtherSound technology in the pro audio industry. The network connected seven different stands in three separate halls and included EtherSound-compatible products from Digigram, NetCIRA by Fostex, Nexo (who also hosted Auvitran), Tyco-Bouyer and InnovaSon. Each Stand injected two audio signals into the EtherSound network for a total of 14 network channels that were available to each stand. More than 6km of cabling went to build the network's infrastructure.

Philippe Delacroix, Digigram managing director, said: "All these devices can share the same network and in combination provide powerful audio ne

Turbosound's new Aspect Series is billed as its "most efficient loudspeaker design to date". Easily scaleable to suit a range of requirements from small clubs to auditoriums and even stadiums, the Series consists of four modules: aimed primarily at the install market, and also for ground-stacked touring applications, are the TA-880H trapezoidal mid/high system and its corresponding TA-880L LF enclosure. These models use removable rigging swords that form a lightweight and easy-to-use flying system. For both large- and small-scale touring applications, the TA-890H mid/high unit and the identically-sized TA-890L LF enclosure are designed to be flown in point source arrays.

The Aspect design features a set of proprietary transducers, operating over four individual frequency bands and divided between the system's modular mid/high and LF enclosures. Key technical innovations inclu

Italy - Just 16 + 16 elements of the Outline Butterfly vertical line array system provided sufficient sound reinforcement for the largest square in Europe, recently - Padua's Prato della Valle. The event was a major celebration held annually by broadcaster Radio Italia Solo Musica Italiana and Video Italia, one of the world's most important and widely distributed satellite TV stations. The show - which included performances by 20 of Italy's top artists, including Marco Masini (winner of the 54th Festival of San Remo), Biagio Antonacci, Piero Pelù, Omar Pedrini and many more - was transmitted live by Radio Italia, Video Italia and Video Italia channel 712 (Sky), covering the whole of Italy and a good part of the rest of the world.

Outline's Butterfly Vertical Line Array covered this enormous area (approximately 90,000sq.m) evenly with high SPLs and high acoustic quality, without

World - Sennheiser endorsees, Lostprophets, continue their world tour with the company's evolution microphones. Following sell-out dates in Australia and Europe, Lostprophets front-of-house sound engineer 'Doof' had tried a number of microphones from various manufacturers and comments from their US tour: "We found the E935 wired vocal microphone to be excellent live, so we used another E935 capsule in our new Sennheiser evolution wireless G2 system to keep exactly the same sound."

In addition, the band's complement of microphones includes four more evolution wireless guitar systems, and evolution e604s and e609s used on drums and back line. The band will be returning for more gigs in the UK this summer and have already confirmed that Reading and Leeds festivals will be part of their busy outdoor schedule.

New from Wharfedale was the SI (Systems Integration) Series, comprising six models - the SI-10, SI-12, SI-15, SI-28, SI-15B and SI-18B - aimed at various sound reinforcement applications, including theatres, houses of worship and meeting rooms. The SI-10 is a five-sided enclosure, making it configurable to multiple applications, including stage monitoring and low-profile ceiling or corner installation. The more powerful SI-12 and SI-15 give the option of a 12" or 15" LF driver. Complementing these three full-range options are two LF boxes: the SI-15B is a trapezoidal compact sub using a long-excursion 15" driver, while the SI-18B is a compact vented sub-bass to provide extended low frequency output via a high output 18" driver.

The SVP Series is a range of two-way speakers designed for live music. Seven models make up the range - five full-range models (including

Australian Monitor has had some ups and downs over the years, but since becoming part of Audio Telex, it has grown from a small local company, with three international distributors in 2001, to become a worldwide exporter of installation audio systems, with a network of 55 distributors.

Released for the Entech show was the Zone Mix 3, a simple but full-featured three-zone stereo matrix mixer, packed into one Unit of rackspace. Remote volume stations and paging mic are all connected via Cat 5 cable for simple installation.

At the same time as celebrating its 50th anniversary, Vieta - one of Spain's most established audio equipment manufacturers for consumer and in-car markets - made its debut in the pro audio world at Frankfurt this year, introducing a fully integrated portfolio with models for applications from live performance to permanent installation.

The range extends from ceiling speakers to 15" two-way enclosures - constructed from both plastic and plywood, a range of sub-bass units and the company's proprietary processor technology. Vieta launched three ranges of loudspeaker products. Firstly, the VT series - a three bass-reflex, two-way passive loudspeaker featuring a 1" HF driver with a neodymium driver and an LF driver in 8",12" and 15" formats. Secondly is the VI series, comprising five passive speakers designed for accurate sound reproduction in various types of acou

The Vortex 200V is the latest addition to Camco's line of digital amplifier products. Targeted at the sound contractor and rental company market, it delivers the same performance characteristics as the Vortex range, say Camco, but in a more accessible price bracket. All Tecton amplifiers are compact and light, weighing just 10kg in a 2U ch

UK - A.C. Lighting's Audio division has supplied the Hackney Empire with a Soundcraft MH4 live mixing console as part of the venue's £17m restoration. The venue began life as a theatre in 1901 and has undergone a number of transformations - including TV studio and bingo hall - before returning to its original theatre roots in 1986. The venue closed in 2001 to begin its multi-million pound renovation and refurbishment programme designed to re-establish the Empire as a showcase theatre for the 21st century.

Among the many improvements made to the theatre is an enlarged orchestra pit, enabling large-scale opera, ballet and musicals to visit the Empire for the first time in its history. When the Empire's owners wanted to bring the theatre's technical aspects up to date they called on A.C.'s Audio division to supply a state of the art live sound-mixing console. The brief was to prov

UK - Divine Comedy brought in Canegreen to manage the sound when the band took a 17-piece orchestra on its recent tour. Divine Comedy frontman Neil Hanlon has never been staid when pushing artistic boundaries and his latest album and tour continued his penchant for trying something different. The addition of the 17-piece orchestra to Hanlon's arrangements inspired the choice of theatres for the current tour.

To fulfil the varied acoustic challenges of the different venues and get efficient sound coverage to the whole audience, Canegreen selected its Meyer Milo line array speaker system for the tour, for two main reasons. Firstly, the orchestral/acoustic nature of the band would benefit the system's frequency range and ability to recreate the sound with minimal colouration and distortion, and secondly, the dispersion characteristics of the cabinets meant it was a very adaptable s

Germany - Having been used for opera and rock and roll, HK Audio's Cohedra (Coherent Dynamic Response Array) system has been used at its first techno music place at the German Mayday festival. Starting early in the evening on 30 April in the Westfalenhallen, Dortmunder, the sold-out event attracted 23,000 hard-core techno fans.

Mayday consisted of three separate dance zones in the Westfalenhallen, a multi-purpose indoor events centre. The largest was held in the 13,000-capacity indoor cycle racetrack, while two smaller areas accommodated around 5,000 people each. The Cohedra system was rigged in Area 3, which hosted a plethora of German DJs as well as Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills and Norwegian musician/production team Röyksopp. HK Audio's Jorg Knieschewski, who spent more than two years conducting the acoustic engineering for Cohedra, configured the system into four identic

UK - Theatre sound specialist Orbital and the National Theatre's sound department have combined forces to deliver the fourth five-day course for stage management and technical theatre students keen to pursue sound as a career. Theatre sound is advancing at a rapid rate, driven by technological developments and the growing expectations of directors, producers and audiences. Both Orbital and The National say they are concerned that there is a skills shortfall - that young people entering the industry have little experience of the latest technology and techniques.

Building on the success of its previous years, over 20 students attended the complementary course from 10 drama schools nationwide. Benefiting from the opportunity to gain an extra level of technical skill and artistic understanding, their "skills-set" is expanded to enable the level of competence necessary in c

"It will be good to apply some of the experience I have gained through the very precise science of the automotive industry," he said. "I can see a great synergy between what I have learnt designing systems for Bentley and Audi and what I will be doing at Martin Audio.&quo

Denmark - Capped by a vaulting glass mosaic dome, the new conference room at Danske Bank's headquarters in Copenhagen is one of Europe's more graceful presentation venues. Designed for a maximum 150 capacity, it is a classicist's vision of light and space. But roll down the projection screen, dim the lights, cue the show, and technology begins to impose its presence in a subtle fashion that belies its potency. "The bank approached us with a good brief, very specific in terms of application, but quite open when it came to equipment," explained Jesper Rosgaard of Informationsteknik, the company charged with defining and providing a complete AV system for the conference room.

"Danske Bank had several clearly-defined needs: they wanted a facility that could accommodate events of widely varying scale and complexion, so a dominant demand was for flexibility of equipment

UK - London's Natural History Museum is using Allen & Heath's iDR DSP system to manage audio distribution for the its Darwin Centre, a new development hosting daily live events, as well as housing precious collections, new laboratories, and access behind the scenes for visitors.

The Darwin Centre live events bring resident experts and specialists from around the world to talk about their work or explore significant specimens from the Museum's collections. The free events, which are also webcast on the Museum's website, are informal and lively with audience participation encouraged. However, the Museum found that the audio system was unable to cope with the demands resulting from live situations and selected Allen & Heath's iDR DSP system to replace it.

"The original audio equipment, designed before the Darwin Centre opened in 2002, was unable to separate microphones indi
