Italy - The Galli Theatre in Rimini, a historic venue on the Romagna Riviera, has now reopened 75 years after it was hit during bombing in December 1943.
The famous theatre, which was inaugurated by Giuseppe Verdi in 1857, came back to life on 28 October 2018. The reopening took place to the sound of the voice of mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli. She performed Cinderella in a semi-staged version, accompanied by the Musiciens du Prince.
The reconstruction and modernization of the mechanical stage equipment and other systems was entrusted to Decima 1948, a leading firm in the field of design, development and implementation of technological solutions for the theatre and show and exhibition venues. Mentored by sound supervisor Dafyyd Gough - himself a professional sound designer - JP established a 10.2 loudspeaker system, including a pair of overheads, distributed around the Mountview’s black box studio theatre space.
TiMax created live overhead train announcements, supermarket PA effects and also a preacher’s speaker box effect with the help of the onboard EQ.

Poland - Blues rock band Dżem celebrated a landmark 40 years of live performances with a massive show at the Spodek Arena in Katowice.
The lighting was designed by Michal Parzych from design collective Green Beam Design who has been involved in all Dżem’s special events for around the last 10 years, and on this one he again worked in collaboration with the band’s regular LD, Market Gubata.
Together, they specified 131 Robe fixtures - 30 MegaPointes, 56 Spikies and 45 LEDBeam 800s, all of which were delivered by rental company, Transcolor.
Green Beam Design (GBD)’s founder Jacek Chojczak explained that the starting point for the lighting was a request from Dżem’s management to have a large upstage LED screen, and apart from that, they left Michal and the GBD team to produce a spectacular solution for presenting the band and their special guests for thi

Europe - Alt-folk rockers Mumford & Sons are midway through a world tour promoting their fourth studio album, Delta, which dropped at the end of 2018. The live show features a lighting design by long term LD Ed Warren and Phil Kaikoura which includes an extensive Kinesys automation system.
The Kinesys Apex System being used on the tour was chosen and invested in by UK-based Brilliant Stages who designed and provided the mothergrid system. Also in use are a series of bespoke spine trusses designed to span under venue score boards. The Kinesys motors are mounted inside Brilliant’s own custom truss sections, with two motors per section of truss that are then attached to the mothergrid spines through connection plates.
The lighting design started with Ed and Phil receiving a brief from the band containing -amongst other things - some cryptic statements about w

Belgium - Europeans went to the polls on 23-26 May to elect a new European Parliament, with citizens in 28 countries casting ballots in the second largest democratic election in the world.

Elation’s Belgian distributor IDD Concept of Brussels illuminated the outdoor Esplanade, the mall, often used as a backdrop for election television coverage, and the European Parliament buildings, the Espace Léopold, in a wash of European Union blue. USA - After venturing into neonGARDEN, it was easy for Electric Daisy Carnival fans to forget they were standing under a desert sky. With its redolent neon signage, metal posts and intense, dark techno beats reverberating off its walls, this patch of land on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway grounds was transformed for three days in May into something evoking the vibe of an underground warehouse club that would be right at home in Brooklyn.
One of the keys to creating this atmosphere was an intense SJ Lighting video and lighting design that served up a crisp, precise, hard-edged visual accompaniment to the no-nonsense techno beats of DJs like Fisher, Idris Elba, Eats Everything, and Green Velvet.
Steve Lieberman and assistant lighting designer Max Robin included 48 Chauvet Professional STRIKE Saber fixtures in their rig. Supplied by Aspect Lighting, the batten-style fixtur

Formally the Bradford Odeon, the demolition work inside the building is now well under way, with many of the original art deco features revealed for the first time in over 40 years, as the concrete from the 1960s cinema structure is stripped out. The next stage of development will be the start of the renovation and restoration works, paving the way for a re-opening in the 2020/21 season.
The venue will boast the renaissance of the 1930s ballroom, which will become a 750-person capacity space, for conferencing and banqueting, whilst the double height main auditorium will be reinstated as a 4,000-capacity live events venue.
