USA - A new task group has been formed by ASTM International to create safety standards for drone show operations, focusing on technical requirements, procedures, and risk management. Chaired by Nils Thorjussen of Verge Aero, the group invites broad industry participation to support the growth of the emerging drone show sector. The initiative has the support and participation of the FAA.

Drone shows have come a long way in just a few years. Pioneering work undertaken in laboratories has led to the creation of technologies to deploy massive, record-setting shows worldwide. But not all systems are created equally, with significant differences in sophistication and safety features. Likewise, some operators are far more professional and detail-oriented than others

UK - On 24 June, console manufacturer Solid State Logic will be livestreaming the launch of ‘a revolutionary new technology, set to transform the future of professional music production’. The livestream, which is open to all, will occur at 3:00 p.m. local time and will be broadcast on the SSL website and official YouTube channel from launch sites located around the world in Japan, China, the UK, and the USA.

In addition to revealing its latest transformative technology, the event will celebrate breakthrough advancements by SSL, which continue to redefine professional studio workflows and reshape the art of music production and engineering to this day.

South Africa - The Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal has upgraded its ageing Tungsten Fresnels to ETC Source Four LED engines, and has invested in Fresnel Adapters to provide soft beam lighting suitable for any stage configuration. The new fixtures were used for the first time in the production of Bodies of Water, a soulful contemporary dance work by Flatfoot Dance Company.

“The theatre had some Tungsten Source Fours that they wanted to upgrade,” explains Michael Taylor-Broderick from DWR Distribution’s Durban branch. “After an internal discussion with my colleague, Kevin Stannett, we suggested a solution that would give them the best bang for their buck.”

ETC’s smart retrofitting options include adapters that make its LED engines multi-purpose, allowing lens tubes to be swapped out to suit different ne

USA - The second annual Montreux Jazz Festival Miami, an extension of the long-running Swiss music festival, brought three days of sold-out, world-class performances to The Hangar at Regatta Harbour in the Coconut Grove neighbourhood of Miami.

With technical production support from IPS and a striking lighting design built around Elation lighting gear, the event featured powerhouse sets from acts including Jon Batiste, Chaka Khan, Janelle Monáe, and La Descarga, among others.

ACT Productions returned as the local production company, with ACT director of operations Barbara Goicoechea noting: “The cooperation with IPS was excellent as always and our client was extremely happy. This year’s show was absolutely gorgeous, mostly because of the lighting that was used. We cannot thank IPS enough for doing such an incredible job.”

UAE - INFiLED technology helped transform Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Park into an immersive AV spectacle for the inaugural Offlimits Music Festival.

Billed as the UAE’s first open-format music festival (i.e. one featuring multiple genres of music), Offlimits welcomed global artists including Ed Sheeran, OneRepublic and Kaiser Chiefs across four stages purpose-built on Yas Island for the event, held on 26th April 2025.

Technical production across all four stages – T11 (main), Head, Meteor and Club X – was managed by regional event technology company SLS Production. The team was responsible for delivering audio, video and lighting to global touring standards, ensuring a premium experience for the international artist lineup. One of the standout visual features of the festival was found on the Meteor stage, where a 910m² LED wall –

France - When Alpexpo recognised that event organisers needed something between Grenoble’s massive arena and intimate live venue, they devised a 'box in a box' concept that carves out a 3,389sq.m auditorium within their existing Greater Hall, powered by an L-Acoustics L Series professional sound system.

This transforms what was once a traditional exhibition space into a venue that adapts seamlessly between intimate seated concerts for 1,495 and energetic standing shows for 2,100.

"Our challenge was creating an adaptable system that could be everything to everyone – pristine audio whether hosting a morning keynote or an evening concert – and the transformation had to be instant," recalls Antoine Maurel, sales & installation manager at L-Acoustics certified partner M+ Equipment, part of M Group. "They wanted to build a complete auditorium ins

Poland - Portman Lights, the Polish manufacturer known for its iconic, eye-catching fixture designs seen on stages from global tours to top TV shows, has just flipped the script – and the switch. It has opened its factory doors to musicians.

Portman has transformed the heart of its Gdynia-based factory into a fully functional concert stage – using only its own static lighting fixtures, including the latest hybrid product, Omniray. The launch of Portman Factory Sessions, a new YouTube series, invites artists to perform live in the very space where the company’s renowned lighting products are designed and built.

“We wanted to go beyond showcasing our fixtures in promo videos or spotting them somewhere in the world on stage,” says Michał, brand manager at Portman Lights. “We wanted to show what happens when the people who build the gear col

Europe - HOF is launching the new NEO Truss conical connectors onto the market. Key features include faster assembly and disassembly thanks to the simple click system of the clamp. The annoying hammering of the truss pins and, in the worst case, wedging of the truss pins in the truss and connector is completely eliminated, as truss pins are no longer required with the NEO Truss connector.

Further, the NEO Truss connectors can remain in the truss during transportation. On site, only the NEO Truss clamp needs to be placed around the connector.

By eliminating the truss pins, the noisy hammering together of the trusses is completely eliminated. This means that the trusses can be set up directly on site at noise-sensitive venues such as conference rooms, hotels or city centres, and also at night.

Thanks to the clamp and the elimination of truss pi

UAE - The International Jazz Day, Global Allstar Concert, takes place every 30 April, bringing together some of the biggest names in the jazz world. The 2025 edition was led by Herbie Hancock and hosted by Jeremy Irons.

Usually taking place in a theatre or concert hall, 2025 saw the concert moved to an arena setting for the first time, broadcast from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Lighting and production designer, Tyler Littman, who has designed the IJD production since 2014, was directed by the producers to ‘go big’ with his design, which he did. “We also wanted to maintain a feeling of intimacy yet simultaneously making the show truly fill the enormous space,” he says.

To achieve this, Littman put together a rig that was ‘nearly all Ayrton’, supplied by PRG’s hub in Dubai. There were 170 Ayrton fixtures including Argo 6 Wash

Australia - Dating back to 1824, St. John’s Anglican church in Launceston, Tasmania is the oldest church in the city, having recently celebrated its 200th anniversary. To mark the bicentennial the church committee commissioned a major upgrade, largely to enhance speech intelligibility. Guz Box design + audio, headed by founder Tim Kuschel, were tasked with overseeing the acoustic and electroacoustic design works.

This was back in 2020, but hampered by Covid restrictions and a lack of data, it wasn’t until March 2021, in the post-Covid era, that the Canberra-based consultant fully realised the overwhelming number of architectural constraints he would be facing in this heritage-listed building – not least the demanding acoustics, with multiple reflections created by a 22m-high dome.

The reason intelligibility was such a concern was because a larg

UK - As organisations rethink the role of the office space in a post-pandemic world, Leyard has partnered with T1V, a pioneer in interactive collaboration software, to unveil a new kind of workspace: the High Impact Space.
