USA - The Philip Glass Ensemble along with the New York Philharmonic orchestra and the Collegiate Choir recently performed Philip Glass's powerful music for the 1982 Godfrey Reggio film Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out Of Balance at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Centre. The landmark film was projected on a large screen above the stage throughout the performance.

Simon Nathan, owner of Audio Production Services of Amawalk, NY, worked closely with Dan Dryden, FOH engineer for the Philip Glass Ensemble, to design the sound system for the event.

"Because Avery Fisher hall is home to the Philharmonic, it doesn't have an in-house system that could handle this performance," explains Nathan. "We were asked to provide a high quality system that could cover the entire hall without impeding any stage site lines and provide clean, consistent sound throughout the room."

UK - Black Light reports that Craig Collin has taken over as its installation and project estimator.

"I'll be looking at the overall service we offer and the processes we use and I'll will be refining and improving both," says Collin. "It's an exciting new challenge for me to get my teeth into and I relish the opportunity to get involved in projects from the design stage."

In his new role, Collin will lead the team designing, specifying and estimating Black Light's new-build and refit installation projects.

Collin has worked for Black Light for over four years. His most recent position was as technical manager and he has used his specialist know-how on a range of technically-challenging projects, such as the ingenious exterior lighting system Black Light installed for the dome of Edinburgh's Usher Hall.

UK - The Tony Award-winning play Master Class by Terrence McNally has just transferred from Broadway to the West End for a short run at the Vaudeville Theatre. Sound design is by the veteran Jon Gottlieb, who flew into London at short notice to recreate his Broadway design, working with local associate sound designer Crispian Covell and Orbital Sound, ahead of the official opening on 7th February.

Gottlieb's involvement with Master Class dates back to the very first production in 1995, which clocked up nearly 600 performances in total. An ardent fan of Meyer Sound loudspeaker systems, Gottlieb was initially concerned about how to replicate his Broadway design in the West End environment in the minimal time available, as he explains:

"This was a challenging transfer, and it all happened very fast. We knew that we had to hit the ground running from the moment

South Africa - There was a mixture of excitement and nerves when Black Coffee were awarded technical supplier for the Fourth SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards held at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC). Lighting designer Michael Broderick cautiously stepped in behind the grandMA2 light console, his first time lighting for television.

Before being awarded the job, Brandon Bunyan from Black Coffee gave Michael Broderick a call. "What do you know about television lighting," he asked Broderick. "Nothing, but I'm keen to give it a try," came the answer. "Brandon designed a really cool set," explained Broderick.

There was the usual pressure setting up and Broderick was concerned about not having enough programming time. "I hoped it would be enough," recalls Broderick. "I spoke to Dave Whitehouse at DWR and asked what to look ou

UK - JTE's new innovative Low-Prow pre-rigged moving light truss is currently on tour with Snow Patrol supplied by HSL.

This new versatile truss is made from high load capacity 6061 T6 aluminium and allows lighting to be pre-rigged inside the truss. The 'roll on, roll off' ability dramatically reduces the load in and out times. The trusses with the dollies are on castors and are stackable while being transported and during shows the dollies can be folded and also stacked.

HSL's managing director Simon Stuart states, "The new truss has caused a stir to say the least! It's the best truss I've seen for a long time and I would love to exchange all our other options of moving light truss to this one. In my opinion this will put JTE back in the game, I can see a lot of our clients using this product in the future."

The aim was to achieve a reliable and smooth audio transmission from each room to all the others, to guarantee intelligibility at all times. In particular, due to the main room's m
