UK - Triple E's ModTruss is being deployed as the 'universal building system' for the Theatres Trust stage, the Technical Theatre Awards/USITT stand and the Technical Theatre Awards stage at PLASA this year.

Triple E launched ModTruss - best described as full size Meccano - in the UK market at the ABTT Theatre Show in June 2015. It was immediately recognised as 'Engineering Product of the Year' at the ABTT Awards.

ModTruss was Triple E's most ambitious launch since the company was formed in 1984. The product is set to revolutionise theatre staging, set building, stage machinery, construction and event markets.

Europe - With his eighth solo LP Tracker receiving much acclaim, guitarist and vocalist Mark Knopfler is in the midst of an eight month, 88-date world tour. A pair of DiGiCo SD7s is ensuring every nuance of these musically complex shows is heard clearly.

The tour is currently playing European arenas and festivals, with US and Canada theatres to follow. Front of House engineer Dave Dixon and monitor engineer Kerry Lewis are both mixing on DiGiCo SD7s.

"As well as Mark on guitar and lead vocals, the band features drums, bass guitar, two sets of keyboards, a second guitarist and two multi instrumentalists, who play a lot of different things including citterns, flutes, pipes and acoustic guitars," says Dave. "Mark and the second guitarist also play an array of electric and acoustic instruments, so there are around 90 inputs in total."

Australia - On 16 August 2015, the Australian Netball Diamonds crowned their 2015 Netball World Cup campaign with their eleventh title, beating out 15 other nations, including arch rivals New Zealand in the grand final. UK - Starcloth, drapes, miniature lights and LED specialist S+H Technical was asked to provide a special magic touch for the Stargazing episode of the BBC's latest series of Marrying Mum & Dad, a popular programme on the CBBC channel where children take control of their parents' and step-parents' wedding days.

The requirement was for the stylish black wedding dress and matching waistcoat to twinkle joyously like constellations as bride Madeline and groom Shaugn took their wedding vows atop the world's tallest sculpture, Anish Kapoor's Orbit in London's Olympic Park.

The idea was the brainchild of children Jade (13), Grace (9) and Seb (10) who took all the major decisions - theme, venue, outfits, entertainment, etc. - for their parents' Big Day, with a little bit of assistance from series presenters, Ed Petrie and Naomi Wilkinson.

UK - Ian Green has joined GDS as business development manager for the UK working with Ben Noble and the wider GDS team. Ian, who will be based in Glasgow, gained a wealth of practical experience in stage technologies from technical roles at Alton Towers, The Birmingham Hippodrome and Carlisle's Sands Centre, before moving onto a sales path with Stage Electrics and Northern Light.

Matt Lloyd, managing director of GDS warmly welcomed the appointment. "Ian is a formidable talent with precisely the skills and experience that will be invaluable to the GDS team. His technical background and thorough industry understanding will be a huge asset to us in servicing the rising demand for our products and developing that demand still further."

UK - At the PLASA Show this year, Autograph is celebrating three historic relationships; Meyer Sound, Clear-Com and DiGiCo.

For Meyer Sound, Autograph is showing the loudspeaker manufacturer's newest linear high power compact line array, the LEOPARD, plus associated LFC sub, which are part of the LEO family of loudspeakers.

Fully integrated into an EXE Rise chain hoist body, the PLASA Award for Innovation nominated system is designed to give riggers the possibility to see in real time, the individual weight applied to the chain hoist during all rigging operations. UK - SSE Audio Group has announced the development of a successor product to PROSIGHT, which was the first laser inclinometer product designed for setting the angle of speaker line arrays.

"We have been working on the development of Prosight2 for the last 18 months", commented SSE Sales Director, Alex Penn. "Our design brief was to create a more compact device that offered more features, but also that could be brought to market at a more competitive price point."

UK - RC4 Wireless is showcasing its RC4Magic-DMXpix at PLASA Show 2015. A nominee for the PLASA Awards for Innovation, the RC4Magic-DMXpix is a tiny wireless DMX driver for pixel LEDs. It runs two separate pixel strings with customizable multi-channel profiles to create beautiful pixel effects utilising up to 3000 output channels.

Using RC4MagicPC software or RDM, users can specify the string type, DMX start channel, and various effects parameters for each driver. USA - The National Football League is implementing Green GO Digital Intercom across its Instant Replay and Injury Review systems this season. Through extensive testing, Green GO has modified existing products to more closely align with the NFL's specific requirements.

"We've been extremely pleased with the responsiveness and flexibility of Green GO and Nova Lume in developing products and software to meet our needs", says John Cave, vice president of information technology for the NFL.
