Germany - The musical Ich Will Spass! currently playing at the Colosseum Theater in Essen, is a return to the more carefree days of the 1980s. Written and produced by Stage Entertainment, Ich Will Spass!(I Want to Have Fun!) features a giant, multi-coloured Rubik's Cube illuminated using Martin LC Series LED panels.

Used as the main set piece throughout the play and made of nine columns that can fold apart to make it twice as wide, the Cube is positioned on a revolving platform that rotates 720 degrees so the audience can see into it. The Rubik's Cube acts as the central and only set piece in the production with all the action taking place in and around it.

36 Martin LC Series panels are used to light the Cube in traditional Rubik's Cube colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and white). Positioned 10cm from a Plexiglass screen that surrounds the panels

For the theatre, the company provided 22 high speed (0 - 240 fpm) hoists with 2000-lb. capacit

Australia - The Franciscan church of St. Mary Immaculate is located on the east side of Sydney. To improve the sound of the existing system located in the church, R&B Sound & Vision chose the D.A.S. Audio Artec and Factor systems.

D.A.S. Audio distributor in Australia, Magma Systems & Engineering, offered their considerable experience in the installation of D.A.S. systems in religious centres. They recommended the use of the new Artec systems. Specifically, four white Artec 26 sound boxes were placed vertically in the altar area. These systems, ideal for near field applications, offer clean cut and sleek styling fit perfectly in any type of architectural space, says the company.

On either side of the hall, four white Factor 5 systems were used for paging and background music. These two-way propylene monitors offer precise directional sound symmetry. Pete Hotson of Magna System

The Netherlands - Mojo Barriers provided the crowd safety infrastructure required for the Dutch premiere of Valkyrie, the new film starring Tom Cruise. Spain - The Goya Theatre, which was founded in 1914, first started its theatrical activity in 1916 and was later converted into an important theatre in the city of Barcelona. In addition to being used as the headquarters of the Aragonese Centre, the theatre has staged productions in which many famous have taken part.

In 2004, the theatre was forced to close and was on the verge of ceasing its activities, but the Focus Group took charge of bringing it back to life in order to prevent the loss of one of the most emblematic artistic and drama centres in the city.

The theatre has a capacity for 520 people, including both the tiered stalls and the amphitheatre. The remodelling project has a cost of 3.7 million euros, of w

USA - Lighting for a concert video shoot featuring Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana performing eight songs to be aired in the promotion of her upcoming album release and mega-hit Disney Channel series was designed by Lee Rose of Design Partners.

Held outdoors before a live - and very vocal - audience at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, CA, the concert was performed on a full stage set created by Tom McPhillips of Atomic Design . One of Rose's lighting challenges was to add excitement to four pieces of scenery used to surround video columns on the stage. "Tom (McPhillips) had come up with a set design that included four video columns," said Rose. "The surround to each column was a piece of scenery that looked kind of lonely."

Wanting to tie this scenery into the show's colour and movement, Rose positioned six Impression LED moving heads from Elation Pr

Australia - The Wesley Centre for Hyperbaric Medicine is located in the Sandford Jackson Building on the campus of Brisbane's Wesley Hospital, the only private day hospital facility of this nature in Australia. The facility utilises the hyperbaric chamber to treat conditions such as decompression illness, non-healing wounds and radiation induced injuries.

Communications between the nursing attendant inside the chamber and the medical staff outside is a priority. The previous communications system had its limitations and was recently damaged as a result of the external fire sprinklers flooding the unit. In consultation with Fink Engineering the Clear-Com FreeSpeak digital wireless system was recommended.

"The metal is inches thick and you cannot hear anything so if you don't have a good communications system you're really in strife," remarked Sharon Peut, nurse manage

Australia - Last year the Sydney Opera House hosted Le Grand Cirque which turned out to be the highest grossing show they had ever had. UK-based Storm Lighting was re-invited to design the lighting for the return tour which ran this January at the Opera House. The design was by Pete Kramer with guidance from an old colleague of his Gavin Norris, now a full time production manager for the opera house.

The show was a tricky feat due to the high rig trim height and weight loading restrictions of the listed building. Fortunately, for the first time, Kramer had Vari*Lite luminaires in his rig. "In this situation, with the high trim height, I think the Vari-Lites were definitely the best fixtures for the job," he remarked. "We really needed the VL3000s for their brightness and throw, but also due to the restrictions on the roof, we could use fewer of them. I've f

Down to the present day he has sold approximately 100 million albums. Currently Miguel is on tour accompanied by a lighting design from Danny Nolan and a grandMA system.

Nolan said: "Luis Miguel's show design is made up of a large 80' x 30' back low-res panel. In front of the low-res is a 20' x 15' HD LED screen with Barco MiTRIX modules across the front of all the stage. Equipment for the US legs of the tour is being supplied by Paradign Production Services from Florida, and Robe fixtures were originally recommended to Boggino by Paradign's George Valdez, who also programmed the show with Boggino, using a grandMA full size console.

"George is the principal of Paradign and a very knowledgeable LD in his own right," states Boggino. "So I completely trusted his judgement when he suggested I use Robe's ColorSpot and ColorWash 1200E AT units for the first time". Once Valdez had demo'd the fixtures, Boggino was very imp

Neanderthal News - A musical experience with a difference is being previewed at the National Museum Wales in Cardiff - an attempt to recreate the sound of the Neanderthals. Jazz composer Simon Thorne was given the task of creating the "soundscape" to provide a musical backdrop to some of the ancient exhibits on display. The musician says the work is "probably the most unusual" he has undertaken.

There has been strong interest in the composition and it will go on a separate live tour later in the year. Neanderthal man existed side by side with early homo sapiens before becoming extinct some 30,000 years ago. Despite having a reputation for lacking intelligence, recent research suggests the Neanderthals were a lot more resourceful and innovative than was first thought. Thorne said: "Given that Neanderthal man's brain was about the same size as ours, and mu
