Russia - Last month saw the spectacular inauguration of a new multimedia fountain in Krasnodar's Theatre Square in front of 15,000 people. The fountain is now the centrepiece of the square that has been fully renovated and remodelled to provide a suitably grandiose backdrop for the new fountain design that features a central jet powerful enough to project up to 30m in the air.

Pro audio systems specialists, Yugdoka, were called in to handle the acoustics for the new installation. They specified APG MC216C systems throughout, powered by Lab.gruppen C Series amplifiers.

Yugdoka's owner and MD, Alexander Kharchenko explained that the new fountain is a complex and sophisticated structure comprising a number of concentric rings of fountains around the central jet and a further four 'satellite' rings around the outside, of the main circle, each with their own, smaller central jet. UK - For the fifth consecutive year, the NFL held a football game in London. Once again, Britannia Row Productions provided live audio for the event to the 86,000 crowd inside Wembley Stadium for the Chicago - Tampa Bay NFL game. Audinate's Dante technology distributed the audio for the sound reinforcement system.

System engineer Sergiy Zhytnikov reports: "Signal distribution around the field was achieved using Dante linked Lab.gruppen LM 26 and LM 44 Processors. A total of 14 of these units were deployed for the game. The use of fibre optic cabling to deliver both Dante audio and control remotely gave real benefit instead of using 2000m of analogue cabling which due to necessity was placed in cabling conduits at field level, along with every other kind of electrical cable imaginable."

Dante also solved the problem of signal degradation over long distances. Zhytnikov

UK - The multi-award-winning show Phantom of the Opera has held a dazzling TV and live performance at London's Royal Albert Hall, supported by PRG and ETC lighting.

Designing for the Royal Albert Hall, Bridge worked with Patrick Woodroffe to create a production with only three performances. TV cameras were brought in to transmit the final show to thousands of cinemas and theatres worldwide.

Bridge says: "The lighting rig was quite different to the theatre version of Phantom. It was far bigger, and a different shape.

"As a part of the design team, we had a clear idea of what we wanted to achieve; anyone who has been to see the original show would have recognised it, but with the lighting coming from very di

UK - Lighting designer Andi Watson, has showcased the new PixelSmart on his recent tours. including Bon Iver, Interpol, Zazie and Lissie.

Watson states, "The controllability of the individual pixels allows me to modulate the intensity or colour of the beam, creating movement from a static source. It is truly a beautiful effect and one which ranges from incredibly subtle to highly dynamic. The tungsten LEDs in the PixelSmarts are amazing for key lighting and for punching a white beam through a colour wash."

Watson continues, "In addition, when the fixtures are facing the audience - the LEDs can be PixelMapped or modulated to create a highly controllable LED array, enabling patterns and movement to be displayed across the fixtures. All in all a really versatile fixture which I am really impressed with."

UK - To give full justice to Kafka's Joseph K - produced within Eton College's Farrer Theatre - a sophisticated immersive soundscape was called for.

To assist the students in finding a way through the 'involved' sound track, Eton's theatre tutor and production manager for the play, Matt Evered, contacted sound designer Rick Sarson, who specified TiMax.

"There were several reasons for wanting to use TiMax. It is by far and away the coolest sound toy ever and is the only product that utilises the Haas effect to broaden the soundfield to cover the majority of the audience with moving sound effects. It is one of the very few ways of triggering multi channel moving sounds and, once set up, it is amazingly simple to use."

TiMax enabled Sarson to trigger sophisticated, multi layered effects at the click of a mouse. This was necessitated from the very start of the s

USA - For the past four months pop rock band Train has been out on a double headed tour of North America, alongside Maroon 5. Always on the lookout for new products and equipment, Train's lighting designer Brock Hogan wanted a wall of light at the front of the set while at the same time creating an entrance for the band from the centre piece.

Brock discussed his ideas with Craig Mitchell at LMG Touring, who took up the challenge to find a low resolution video product that allowed the band and crew to walk through it. When Brock was shown G LEC's Solaris+, he knew he'd found the right product.
