UK - Projection and video artist Ross Ashton collected his second Guinness World Record, this one for the 'Largest Card Illusion Reveal' which took place at the 2014 e-Luminate Festival in Cambridge, UK and was a collaboration with Italian illusionist Alexis Arts.

The five minute choreographed performance in front of a live audience featured projected video effects and animations throughout, beamed onto the side of the chapel at Sidney Sussex College. It culminated in two audience members picking cards which were then revealed on the wall as giant projections measuring 128.25 square metres!

This was declared as 'Officially Amazing' by the adjudicators from Guinness World Records.

It's the second world Record Ashton has collected for his work. He comments, "It's fantastic to achieve two world records within two years! Working with Alexis on this show was a real pleasure

UK - Liverpool-based Adlib's Sales division has been appointed a UK distributor for Coda Audio's ViRAY and TiRAY product ranges.

The audio rental specialist and technical solutions provider has backed and invested heavily in the German owned Coda brand since its launch, and was an early adopter of Coda's large and medium format line arrays for its rental stock.

Adlib was also instrumental in shaping the ViRAY series, brought to the market in late 2012. Their team worked closely alongside Coda's R&D and technical departments during the Beta testing program for the product, adding knowledge and expertise.

This helped ensure that the product was road-ready for the touring, practical to rig and transport as well as a highly versatile system that sounds fantastic in multiple applications.

Becoming a distribution partner is the next logical step in cementing an already highly pr

UK - Shure wireless microphone and in-ear monitoring systems featured heavily at the Wembley Stadium-based Rugby Union showdown between Saracens and Harlequins on 22 March. The Saracens decisively beating the Harlequins 39 to 17 was the perfect end to a full afternoon of entertainment that included four tribute acts (to Elvis, Elton John, Whitney Houston and Oasis respectively) and performances from the 1600-strong Rock Choir.

Richard Nowell Sound Services (RNSS), together with renowned live sound consultant Roger Lindsay, was responsible for the live sound before and during the match. Lindsay was the audio consultant for the Saracens when they commissioned a high-performance music system for the East Stand at their new ground at Allianz Park, London, a few years ago, and brought in RNSS at that time to carry out the installation. Consequently, when the Saracens wanted to improv

Switzerland - The town of Montreux in the Swiss Riviera has been welcoming visitors from around the world for over a century and its reputation for staging international cultural events is unsurpassed. The famous Montreux Jazz Festival and the Septembre Musical, staged at the equally well known Montreux Music and Convention Centre (M2C2) draw music lovers in their thousands each year.

The prestigious Stravinski Auditorium underwent a complete refurbishment in 2011, followed in 2013 by an overhaul of the venue's wiring, including a new, state of the art intercom system and Green-Go, from ELC Lighting was the provider of choice.

Technical infrastructure and event manager, M2C2, Pierre-Yves Nussbaum said, "As part of the initial upgrade of the Auditorium Stravinski in 2011, we set up a universal wiring system based on RJ45 connectors and fibre optics. So when, in 2013, the w

Canada - The multiplatinum-selling pop-rock band Hedley is in the midst of their cross-continent Wild Live tour of Canada supported by a Meyer Sound Leo linear large-scale sound reinforcement system. Supplied by Richmond, BC-based KiAN Concert Sound Services, the flexible LEO system adapts to venues of all shapes and sizes, from theatres up to arenas in Montreal and Toronto.

"Leo has been dynamite for every show," says Russ Giroux, FOH engineer and tour manager for Hedley. "I can get a clean, tight pop mix out of Leo in difficult arenas. Even when the roof level is different from one side to the other, or with very steep 200 levels, I still get solid, uniform coverage. It's a super-versatile system that helps a lot in unconventional rooms."

The typical configuration for the smaller venues is 12 Leo-M line array loudspeakers per side, which is increas

Australia - Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast is Australia's premier theme park where movies come to life. Recently Movie World upgraded the park's main Main Street show and park general architectural lighting and a new lighting control system was required. Rather than an off the shelf, stock standard media server and lighting console, products were required that could be customized to suit the unique operating environment of a theme park.

MA Lighting consoles have been the console of choice for Village Roadshow Theme Parks since 2009 and fortunately they could meet this brief with one grandMA2 light, one MA onPC command wing and one MA onPC fader wing.

"We have been using a small MA onPC system to run a few components in the park for a couple of years and wanted to expand on that," commented Clint Dulieu, lighting supervisor for Village Roadshow Theme Parks

UK - Robe Lighting is working with London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), supplying technical equipment and resources.

The arrangement was driven by Josef Valchar Robe s.r.o.'s CEO, Ashley Lewis, Robe UK's key account manager for film, TV & theatre and Matt Prentice, head of lighting at RADA.

RADA has taken delivery of a number of different Robe moving light products from Robe's current ranges which were selected by Matt as especially appropriate to theatre productions, following a visit to Robe's HQ in the Czech Republic.

The equipment includes DLS Profiles, DLF Washes and LEDWash600s, together with two of the new MMX Blades - all from Robe's Robin series.

There is an emphasis on LED technology and all the benefits that brings to both designers and venues, coupled with features that are essential for theatrical performance like framing shutters and barn doors.

UK - The First Night Riders charity motorbike and classic car tour of British theatres, which raises money for The Theatrical Guild's (TTG) vital work, has launched its 2014 event with a call for participants and sponsors.

This year marks the fifth year that some of the theatre industry's biggest movers and shakers zoom together for a weekend aimed at raising awareness and much-needed funds to help TTG support backstage workers in need. Established in 1891, TTG is dedicated to looking after theatre personnel who, due to a variety of circumstances, need educational sponsorship, counselling, or welfare advice, in order for them to regain employment in the theatre industry.

The charity has many supporters in the industry, including the actors Simon Russell Beale and Keira Knightley, who are patrons.

Australia - Lighting and staging tradeshow, Entech Connect has secured two audio themed presentations from stand-out, industry speakers for the event taking place 23-24 July at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Melbourne.

Recent press reports called it a 'triumph' and claimed that the redeveloped Adelaide Oval will 'define the city'. The venue hosted what was reported as arguably the biggest sporting event held in the city recently, the historic local AFL derby between Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows. It was a win for Port Adelaide and a win for the revamped venue.

Attend this case study and learn all about the installation of a stadium system, capable of supporting the needs of the cricket and AFL codes that are the primary users of the new look Adelaide Oval - while being sympathetic to the heritage elements of this iconic facility.

USA - Atlanta musician Ian Schumacher professes to be a performer by trade, but it's clear that he has a bit of organiser/promoter in his DNA as well. Nothing else explains how he pulled together a cool weekly venue, a state-of-the-art Line 6 StageScape M20d digital mixer, multiple sponsorships including Guitar Centre Atlanta, and Atlanta's diverse music community, to create the Tin Roof Acoustic Showdown competition.

"Atlanta has a huge music scene, but it's spread out in different neighborhoods and we all gig on the same nights, so no one ever gets to experience what's happening in other parts of the community," explains Schumacher. "I wanted to create something that would draw musicians together from all over town."

The result was the Tin Roof Acoustic Showdown, a weekly competition held at the Tin Roof Cantina - a longtime hangout for local musicians. E

USA - The Academy of Country Music Awards is hailed as the biggest night in country music, and it pulled out all the stops to deliver, with Bandit Lites' clients taking home most of the evening's top awards. Germany - Yamaha's CL1 digital console has proved itself a winner in regional and municipal venues, where space is at a premium, but the flexibility and facilities of the CL system means venues can exceed audience expectations. A prime example of such an installation is in the German town of Vöhringen.

The Bavarian town's biggest global claim to fame is probably as the birthplace of Charles Fey, inventor of the one-armed bandit. However the Wolfgang-Eychmüller-Haus, its modern cultural centre and venue for many events, undoubtedly attracts a lot of attention from across southern Germany.

Opened in 1993, the building replaced the deteriorating auditorium of the town's Eagles Hall, sympathetically married to the restored former venue's listed main building. The result is a state-of-the-art venue which bridges the modern and historic and is the social and cultural centre of the

UK - 12 gigs in 19 days is hectic by any measure; arena productions and their schedules don't just fall together. Yet front of house engineer Mark Kennedy was his usual self, completely at ease, following the opening shows of Tinie Tempah's latest tour. "We just played two nights at Wolverhampton Civic and it was great. Most of the venues we play are ten thousand plus capacity, but these first two, Wolverhampton and Manchester Apollo are smaller so we are playing two nights in each.

"Britrow have given me L-Acoustics K1 for the arenas but I must admit I was surprised when they turned up with K2 for these first two; I thought I'd be getting V-dosc, that's what I'd spec'd."

"We were always going to provide the smaller K2 for side hangs at the larger venues," explained Britannia Row Productions' client liaison, Lez Dwight. "Putting them on the truck

USA - Currently touring North America with a rig of Elation Professional lighting that includes Platinum Beam 5R and Design Spot 1200C moving heads, Brit Floyd's Discovery is a three-hour musical journey that recreates the legendary band's music and gives audiences a retrospective look at a classic lighting setup.

Brit Floyd has performed to over one million fans around the world since its first show in Liverpool in 2011. Lighting design is by Dave Hill, who has been designing Brit Floyd for years and incorporates the Platinum 5Rs into the trademark Pink Floyd arch and circle light show.

"The Platinum Beam 5R's do most of the big effects and are situated around the circle and on the trusses above," Dave states of the narrow 2.5 degree ACL-type beam effect that can project 12 colours and houses rotating gobos, all in a small package. "I particularly like t

UK - Popular American punk pop band All Time Low recently took the UK by storm on their latest A Love Like tour, and part of their energy-fuelled performances was the lighting design created by Boston-based LD Jeff Maker. Lighting for the UK tour was supplied by Leeds-based rental company Zig Zag and included over 80 Robe moving lights including 54 Pointes, 12 LEDWash 600s and 12 LEDBeam 100s - all from Robe's Robin range.

Parnelli-nominated Maker has worked with the band since 2009 and his visual starting point for this tour was based on four different backdrop reveals throughout the set - a budget-friendly strategy to bring multi-layered looks and maximum dynamics to the stage and the pacey set. The set also includes semi-transparent riser ramps which are under-lit.

It is the first time that Maker has used Pointes on a tour, so beforehand he researched the fixtures ex

UK - XL Video supplied projection and Catalyst control for the recent UK tour by quirky and interesting indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club, which kicked off their So Long See You Tomorrowalbum campaign and world tour.

The equipment was specified by lighting and set designer, Squib, who is enjoying his second album tour with the band, which is also the first time they have embraced video visuals in their live work.

The band were heavily involved in the overall visual concept explains Squib. They wanted to bring the clean and unadulterated aesthetics of the album artwork created by London based design studio La Boca to the stage and into a completely different dimension, so Squib asked video designer Adam Young to assist in this process, joining animator Anna Ginsburg who was another integral part of the team.

UK - The production values on the X-Factor Live Tour certainly maintain the look and feel of the TV show. Video plays a large part in this with two IMAG screens stage left and right reminding the audience of the journey the performers have completed prior to each acts' performance.

On the stage itself, part of the video wall is used as a sliding reveal for the artists' entrances while the TV dynamic is continued in the design of the stairs, the independent stage thrust and the hi-gloss flooring. Add to that a lighting rig that begins with fifty nine Clay Paky Sharpys just for starters and it is clear that a for a followspot to cut through and make its mark, it would have to be something powerful, very bright and with a clarity of focus to work with the camera work effectively.

Step forward, the Robert Juliat Lancelot, a 4000W Discharge unit that is fast becoming accepte

UK - HSL continued its productive and creative working relationships with award-winning lighting designer Davy Sherwin on tour with alt rockers The Foals, who have just finished the latest UK leg of their ongoing Holy Fire album campaign.

This was Sherwin's second world tour for the band who have earned much critical acclaim for their incendiary live performances and won the 2013 Q Award for Best Live Act. Lighting was an integral part of the show and lead singer Yannis Philippakis in particular had some very clear ideas about how certain things should look.

The look and feel of the UK tour, which culminated in two sold out nights at London's Alexandra Palace, was an evolution of their summer festival floor lighting package which was highly effective and presented with Sherwin's characteristic imagination, style and flair.

HSL's project manager Mike Oates commented: &
