Visitors to the Messe were hit with promotional banners from the moment they arrived, announcing a competition to win prizes based around five little humanoid robots, which had earlier performed on CCTV's Lunar New Year Gala 2016, celebrating the Chinese New Year. In Frankfurt they were performing to I'm Sexy And I Know It, which was synced to the spectacular lightshow. And after revelling in the show, many of the awe-struck visitors were fortunate enough to leave the booth with souvenirs, prizes and mementos after competing in the company's 'lucky draw'.

Germany - Laserworld launched several new products at this year's Prolight+Sound, amongst them also two world-first releases: The RTI NEO SIX RGB beam arrays and the HB-Laser Poseidon 3D-HydroMatrix HD.

The stand concept was completely different to past years, as there was no actual show on display at the booth but a huge bar, surrounding a tall tree in the middle of the stand.

Several lasers of the new tarm Series and others created ambient laser effects and a multitude of laser of the Garden Series illuminated the tree and the bar with hundreds of tiny light dots. Germany - RCF again registered outstanding success at this year's Frankfurt Prolight+Sound where they showcased a wide range of products.

At one end of the spectrum, this included their new HDL 53-AS active high-power bass module as well as the HDL 50-A and SUB 9007-AS large format line array rig, which was on active demo outside in the Live Sound Arena, to the new M18 digital mixer in the demo booth, where it ensured the amazing voice of Valentina Petrossi was heard to perfection.

These were the CDC MC Optical Bridge, CDC MC AES3 Stagebox and CDC MC Router software application, and CDC Console V3.01 Software. These were all trailed ahead of the press briefing. Previously unannounced was the new CDC six and eight offline editor.

Germany - Ayrton presented a number of new products at Prolight+Sound, Frankfurt, exhibiting with its German distributor, Vision Stage, on a 'double-decker' stand where this year's new creations were shown to spectacular effect in a dazzling light show. Designed by Stéphane Migné, the show, featured over 650 fixtures in a 224sqm booth, and culminated in a surprise ending which wowed the crowds who came to see the new creations in action. UK - FBT UK is promising the UK debut of several brand new product ranges at this year's PLASA Focus, being held in Leeds on 10-11 May.

Leading the new arrivals will be FBT's Vertus CS1000 column line array which offers a modular, scalable system suitable for both live performance and installation applications. A biamplified design, the system comprises a long excursion 12" bass reflex subwoofer and a passive mounted satellite, linked via a Neutrik SPEAKON connector and equipped with six full-range neodymium 3" speakers. Onboard, the subwoofer is a Class-D, two channel amplifier, complete with a switch-mode power supply, delivering 600W RMS to the subwoofer and 400W RMS to the satellite, both of which are housed in birch plywood enclosures.

UK - The Theatres Trust celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2016 with a new strategy and visual identity that sets us on a new chapter - championing the past, present and future of live theatre by protecting the buildings and what goes on inside.

At PLASA Focus Leeds, the organisation will be holding a seminar Theatres Trust 40 on 11 May at 2.15pm, where show visitors are invited to join discuss "what we need to be doing today to protect theatres for live theatre tomorrow". USA - Three teams presented their projects for the 2016 ASTC-USITT Renovation Challenge on 18 March at the USITT Conference in Salt Lake City. The Renovation Challenge has been designed to engage undergraduate and graduate students in real world theatre renovation problem solving.
