Russia - Moscow's "MODI", which serves as an Arts Center for the Kuzminki region, recently underwent a major renovation that included new audio and lighting equipment, cabling, power equipment, new seats, complete hall renovations (ceilings and flooring) and more. On 18 December official dignitaries commemorated the opening of the renovated theatre.

Spain - Wybron has expanded its global distribution network to Spain. Based near San Sebastian with offices in Madrid, Entertainment Equipment Supplies will distribute Wybron products across the western European country. On show for the first time anywhere will be the new Fusion 672 LED video system from Illieum, together with its powerful Fusion Mapper control system. A lightweight batten - just over 1m long and weighing just over 3kg - each Fusion 672 contains a 72x6 array of tri-colour SMD LEDs with a ultra-wide viewing angle. The Netherlands - Anolis LED fixtures are providing a creative and practical lighting solution for six multi-functional rooms, three conference rooms, the hotel's restaurant, and the separate espresso bar, at the Figi Hotel, a fully integrated, conference and business facility in Zeist.

The Hotel approached Arnhem-based lighting supplier Relight when they wanted a change of lights for the six multifunctional rooms that double as bedrooms and conference suites - with the aid of a movable partition, foldaway beds, electric roll-down screen and beamers.

Relight in turn consulted Anolis distributor Controllux, whose Andras Pollé helped specify the fixtures and advise on how to design the installation to maximise the desired effect. USA - Two Robert Juliat Victor 1800W followspots have been installed at the new Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Centre in New York City. The elaborate transformation of the world-famous Tully enclave of music, theatre, dance and film was part of a full renovation of all Lincoln Centre theatres. This massive project required the pick-up and refurbishment of 150 existing fixtures and included the purchase of a few new ones, including two Robert Juliat Victor followspots.

Consultant Fisher Dachs specified the product, which was purchased through Barbizon Lighting. The Hall's associate director of concert hall production Terence Larsen was thrilled to get the Victors for Tully Hall. "I'd taken one of my stagehands with me to see the Victor at Fisher Dachs," says Larsen. "I thought it was exactly what we needed for Alice Tully Hall, which reopens February '09."

Canada - Unusual fish-shaped LED luminaires developed by Toronto-based Lumolar can shift from looking like Chinese lanterns to changing colours like the aurora borealis, with the help of LED solutions support provided by Future Lighting Solutions. Engineers from Future Lighting Solutions guided development of the custom colour-mixing application that drives the RGB fixtures, which are built with Luxeon Rebel LEDs.

Lumolar's 'Baby Fish Tide' luminaires resemble tropical fish lit from the inside. They are made out of naturally fire-retardant industrial felt with holes stamped out of the fabric, utilise Cypress Semiconductor's EZ-Colour controller as their RGB colour-mixing platform, and come with a master board that can control up to 90 fixtures as well as software for designing light sequences utilizing a drag-and-drop GUI.

The Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business Showcase Series is a student production run by Belmont University students. The students assist in all aspects of the showcase, from lighting and sound to stage design to the acts performing. As a result, students receive hands-on experience in concert production. USA - The California Lottery's newest lottery TV game show set for Make Me a Millionaire features a 33ft wide by 12ft high LED video display from Lighthouse Technologies. The LED technology provider partnered with Background Images to install the display, which opens and closes and provides onstage graphics and entertainment for the game show.

"Officials at the California Lottery made it clear they wanted a large display that could open and close and change the look of the set with a variety of graphics," said Alan Barber, vice president of Background Images. USA - Raymond James Stadium, Tampa's host venue for the Super Bowl, has been temporarily illuminated with state-of-the-art LED technology as part of a city-wide beautification effort for the championship game on February 1, 2009. From January 27 through game day, the stadium will be illuminated from dusk until dawn with Philips ColorReach Powercore - a newly launched LED floodlight - becoming a dynamic, visual focal point for Tampa residents and visiting fans.

Design firm Infinite Scale Design was responsible for designing and branding the overall look of the city of Tampa for Super Bowl XLIII. Working with lighting designer Dall Brown, they chose to accentuate the stadium's exterior crown with colourful, customizable lighting. Denmark - On 15 and 16 January Martin Professional and the Professional Lighting Designers' Association (PLDA) held a DMX Masterclass workshop at the Martin Professional headquarter building in Aarhus, Denmark. The event, exclusive to PLDA members, was designed to develop knowledge and skills in the use of lighting control.

The series of workshops included topics such as: Introduction to DMX, basic programming of intelligent lighting, PC-based vs console-based programming, The future of theatrical lighting control, architectural lighting interactivity and video control and mixing.

The two-day programme concluded with a hands-on programming workshop in which each participant programmed a 30-60 second light show to music. Attendees were then presented with a DMX Masterclass diploma.

Denmark - On the evening of 17 January 17th, Danmarks Radio (DR), Denmark's national public service broadcaster, christened its new Concert Hall in °restaden with a series of eclectic concerts, an event that also marked the debut of the building's innovative animated façade.

As opera, classical, jazz, pop and rock resounded through the venue's four studios, the exterior of the building came alive in a mix of light, colour and pattern from Martin Professional Exterior 1200 Image Projectors.

The idea for the flexible façade was created by celebrated French architect Jean Nouvel, designer of the new arts venue. Eight designers, five technicians and creative manager at DR then realised the complex solution.

A total of 34 Martin Exterior 1200 Image Projectors cast colour changing light and moving images onto the building's 14,000sq.m façade.
