Designer Marc Brickman chose the new Vari-Lite VLX for the current Keith Urban tour. Their new, 55-minute show features a Michael Jackson impersonator who has the signatures dance moves down and lip-synchs to original songs including Smooth Criminal, Thriller and Remember the Time.

In order to promote the show nationwide, a four-minute music video was created and featured 18 COLORado 1 Tour wash lights, an Arena Hazer 2 haze machine, and two Q-SPOT 260 LED and six Legend 6500 moving heads. ShowXpress controlled all of the fixtures during the video shoot.

The LEDHead EPW uses the latest LED technology to give a moving head with true spot and wash capabilities, says the company. The 60W white LED light engine, colour wheel, two gobo wheels and rotating prism provide the spot functions.

Wash lighting is provided by eight high powered tricolour LEDs situated at the front of the unit. This allows both functions to be used independently or simultaneously, expanding its applications for creative lighting design. In addition to these functions, the tricolour LEDs are arranged in four zones to provide visual effect capabilities.

Lighting designer Nicholas Michaletos' rig contained 80 Robe moving lights, which were the core of the lighting, supplied by locally based MGG productions - plus a large generic rig - all of which was programmed and run by MGG's Kevin Rieck using a grandMA console.

Supplied by Philips Entertainment's UK distributor Architainment Lighting, Utopium has reported that they've barely seen the luminaires since they were delivered. This, they say, is because the ColorBlazes only come back into the warehouse long enough to be prepped and tested before they're loaded back onto the truck and sent out on the next event.

Main Light, which serves all lighting markets from theatrical to touring, has become one of the largest rental houses in the US. After initially purchasing Sharpy fixtures earlier this year, the company has reinforced its Clay Paky offerings by acquiring the Alpha units.

The festival features a rich international programme of music and arts events including a spectacular 3D illumination of the Sydney Opera House and an outdoor exhibition of interactive light sculptures.
