Belgium - Painting with Light lighting and multimedia designer Luc Peumans created a multi-layered, colour-rich show for Belgian superstars Clouseau's Christmas dates at the Antwerp Sportpalais, utilising an array of powerfully versatile Clay Paky A.leda B-EYE K20 fixtures.

Peumans designed an 'in the round' set, allowing the band to interact with the 21,000 fans that filled the venue to capacity each night. The stage was therefore centrally located, hence the show's name Clouseau Central, with four runways so that charismatic frontman Koen Wauters could get close to fans all over the arena floor. The B-EYEs, supplied by PRG Belgium, were rigged around the arena on the lowest balcony level, or first 'ring'.

"From a practical point of view, I lit the show as if it were a stadium, with several levels of lighting that could work independently or combined with one another,&q

Germany - Le Maitre's range of VS - virtually smokeless pyrotechnics is continuing to expand and receive excellent feedback from the market, followed up with increasing orders! At Prolight + Sound Frankfurt, Le Maitre will be launching several new effects to the range: VS Mines (15/25/35ft), VS Starbursts (Small/Medium/Large), VS Ice Waterfalls (8/15/20ft), VS Volcano Mines (Small/Large), VS Ice Gerbs (10/15/20ft) and VS Flashes.

In addition to much reduced smoke levels the VS range claims greater intensity and depth of colour compared to conventional pyrotechnics which although bright, tend to be less vivid. Le Maitre's VS products all have much deeper and more vibrant colours, particularly noticeable with the blue, purple and pink colours.

The VS range was originally conceived back in 2010 when Le Maitre's R&D team, based in Peterborough, UK were looking into improving the v

Belgium - In the city of Antwerp, in Belgium, lies the luxurious shopping street Meir, connecting the town hall with the central station. Redevco, one of the largest investors in European retail property, recently carried out the restoration of this architectural heritage of Flanders. Belgium - When Martin Schulz was re-elected President of the European Parliament and Jean-Claude Junker for the EP commission, DB Video was tasked with illuminating the seat of the European Parliament in Brussels, indoors for the Hemicycle, Passerelle, Agora set and Forum set as well as outdoor for the main entrance & Protocol entrance at rue Wiertz.

Lighting designer Thomas Boets was in charge of the light setting of this event, creating atmosphere in the several venues which also targeted the live broadcast for international television.

For the outdoor illumination Boets deployed SGM's P-5 wash light: four matrixes of each 16 x P-5 on scaffold towers and 24 luminaires to uplight the flags of the member states. In a different section, another 64 x P-5s washed the trees and some PVC signs.

"The idea was to create an atmosphere in the alley and at the main entrance, wher

USA - Originally an internationally best-selling novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time made its stage debut in London at the National Theatre and has since made its way to the streets of Broadway. The production, called one of the most fully immersive works to ever hit Broadway, relies heavily on pixel mapping technology and uses an ETC Eos Titanium (Eos Ti) lighting system.

The show follows the story of Christopher, a 15 year old boy with an unnamed form of autism, who attempts to solve the unexpected murder of a neighbour's pet poodle. Lighting designer Paule Constable faced a challenge: interpreting Christopher's subjective sensory experiences into something audience members can experience. "I imagined how Christopher would have made the show," says Constable. To bring Christopher's acutely attuned reality to life on stage, the show's creat

Serbia - Clay Paky Sharpys lit the Serbian launch of BMW's latest model in the X-series, the X6. Taking place at the prestigious Crowne Plaza Hotel in the capital's business district, the event was technically produced by award-winning rental operation Studio Berar, who supplied 16 of the super powerful fixtures for the light show.

Working alongside Belgrade-based marketing agency M2Communications and creative director Miro Antic, Studio Berar was commissioned by Serbian BMW dealer Delta Motors to create a highly sophisticated and visually stunning environment for the guests. Lighting designer Marko Malesevic positioned the Sharpys on the floor to create a runway, where contemporary dancers performed and the car appeared through a smoky, coloured haze.

"Marko used the powerful beams of the Sharpys to pierce through the smoke and cross over to create 'X's, signifying the X

South Africa - Second year students from the Department of Performing Arts Technology at The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) visited DWR Distribution for an introduction to product training on 14 February 2015.

With a revamped syllabus, developed by Hardus Koekemoer (lighting lecturer at Department of Entertainment) and Wandile Mogodo (technical manager at the Breytenbach Theatre, the TUT training venue) this was the first time the 36 students were taken on a field trip, particularly to a lighting supplier to see the latest technology available.

"It's a matter of getting the students switched on," commented Hardus. Many students sign up for the three year diploma not fully aware of what the course entails. Some have never seen a live show before; others still have never stepped inside a theatre.

"That said, our retention rate is 99%, if not 100%,"

USA/Canada - With over a million albums sold, Canadian post-hardcore group Silverstein has defied expectations as well as easy categorizations. Moving seamlessly from reflective emo tunes to pop punk power chords, these young artists are bent on keeping their creative options open. This independent streak is enthusiastically shared by the band's LD Victor Zeiser.

Wanting to expand his creative direction as a lighting designer, Zeiser recently started his own rental company, Squeek Lights, and purchased his own gear so he could pursue his unique design vision. Included in this mix of fixtures are a collection of Rogue R1 Spot moving heads and COLORdash Batten-Quad 6 linear washes from Chauvet Professional.

Zeiser is using both of these Chauvet Professional LED products to stunning effect on Silverstein's current Discovering the Waterfront 10th Anniversary Tour. "After gett

UK - You Me At Six celebrated the conclusion of their 2014 Cavalier Youth" album campaign with a UK arena double-headliner with US pop punk band All Time Low, bringing an interesting fusion of genres and uniting thousands of enthusiastic young fans equally into both of them.

Lighting and visuals designer Louis Oliver from creative practice Okulus specified 18 x Robe BMFL Spots and 40 x Robe LEDWash 600s among other fixtures for this final leg of the tour which were supplied by lighting contractor Zig Zag Lighting from Leeds.

Zig Zag was the second rental company in the UK to commit to purchasing BMFLs, and the lights have been working hard ever since on a variety of shows.

The You Me At Six design evolved and was developed over the year according to the venues and the format of the shows, and for these final arena dates, there was a general up-scaling of the orig

USA - Florida Georgia Line have begun their Anything Goes 2015 world tour, in support of their latest album, with a large complement of Clay Paky lighting fixtures.

Lighting designer and programmer Scott Cunningham selected the equipment from the inventory of Morris Light & Sound in Nashville. He is deploying 40 new Clay Paky Mythos fixtures, 24 A.leda B-EYE K20s, 14 Sharpys and 24 Sharpy Washes in the lighting rig.

"I've been using Sharpys since I started to work with the band," says Cunningham. "They love a good bright, poppy show, and Sharpys really make themselves known in clubs and arenas. And they're a real workhorse."

Cunningham surrounds the stage with Sharpys, which act as floor lights to accent the sets; he also positions them on the thrust. "They fill out the space from ground to ceiling," he says.

UK - When Gary Willn reviewed the varied roster of work being serviced by his long running company, CSR Lighting, he sensed that the versatility of SGM's LED portfolio would not only provide unique solutions for him, but also his many dry hire customers.

The Nuneaton-based company opened their account by ordering a batch of P-5 LED washlights. "I have an enjoyment of outdoor projects and SGM's IP-rated products are wonderful - taking the industry to the next level," he says.

Aside from providing RGBW colour washes of building exteriors he has also found great application of the fixture for permanent side stage washes on theatre shows, using the white light through the 43° lens. "On the other hand we also undertake a lot of corporate work and for these a complete colour mix, or mix of pastels and whites, is essential."

He said that in the regular Ch

Indonesia - With the opening late last year of The Mirror Lounge & Club, Seminyak, the international vacation hotspot on the west coast of Bali, has become an even more popular tourist destination. With a capacity of 1,000, the club is the latest, and one of the largest, high-profile additions to the Seminyak scene.

To accentuate the club's distinct layout and features, local integration firm Monalisa Tunggal Jaya (MJT) selected a wide array of Martin Professional lighting fixtures, which they've been installing across Indonesia since 1996.

Owned by Indonesian entertainment organization All In, Mirror caters to an eclectic mix of both local and foreign clubbers. Panelled mirrors are mounted in the corners of the club, which features high ceilings and a rectangular floor plan oriented around the DJ, dispersing the crowd to the sides of the stage.

UK - A final few tickets are available for Rob Halliday's Computers in Entertainment talk tonight at the National Museum of Computing, Bletchley.

In his talk, Halliday will look at how computers moved into entertainment lighting, from pioneering systems such as Strand's IDM up to the remarkable Lightboard created for the National Theatre, which still has some tricks that the current generation of PC-based control systems in use today can't replicate. The common link across all of these systems: lighting's critical need for things to happen right now, right on the beat of the music or the snap of an actor's fingers, not a few moments later when the computer decides it's ready.

The event takes place at The National Museum of Computing, Bletchley, Milton Keynes on Thursday 12 March 2015. Doors open at 7:00pm. Tickets range in price from £4.50 - £7.50.

UK - Lively US pop punk band All Time Low have just completed a co-headlining UK arena tour with UK rockers You Me At Six, and are kicking off their new Future Hearts album campaign.

All Time Low's Boston based lighting designer Jeff Maker lost no time in specifying Robe's BMFLs on the rig, together with an all-Robe floor package comprising 24 x Pointes, 27 x LEDBeam 100s and 11 CycFX 8s. These joined the overhead rig - shared with You Me At Six - comprising 18 x BMFL Spots and 18 x Robe LEDWash 600s.

Jeff worked closely with You Me At Six's LD Louis Oliver from Okulus on creating the production design for the tour, with Leeds based Zig Zag Lighting appointed as the tour lighting contractor. As the second UK rental company to commit to buying Robe's new signature moving light, Zig Zag actually purchased their BMFLs to go on the Gaslight Anthem UK tour at the end of last

Austria - Vienna has hosted the Wiener Eistraum (Vienna Ice Dream) every year since 1996. This huge mobile ice rink measures over 75,300sq.ft. It is assembled in Rathausplatz, the square in front of the town hall, and is one of the largest public attractions in the city. Nearly 250 miles of pipes are laid and connected to three chillers to chill the rink. Alongside the always long-awaited skating and curling rinks, the 'Traumpfad' (path of dreams) made its debut in 2005. This 2460ft -long path leads visitors through the southern part of the city park.

This year, an inauguration party was held in grand style for the Eistraum's 20th anniversary. One grandMA2 light and three MA 4Port Nodes were used to control 40 moving lights, including Clay Paky B-EYE K20s. Christian Weisskircher was the show designer and Jürgen Erntl was in charge of programming and setting up the lights.

UK - Drapes, soft goods and LED special effects specialist S+H Technical services supplied large quantities of silver lame draping for the series and final of ITV's new Get Your Act Together talent show, where assorted celebrities had the chance to let their hidden talents shine by learning and polishing new skills ... and performing live onstage.

The eye-catching set was designed by Patrick Doherty with whom S+H has a long-standing working relationship. Patrick's design was a nod towards bringing a touch of classic 'variety' nostalgia to the performance space . . . but with a contemporary twist. One way of doing this was through the smart application of softs.

The set architecture was based around three shrinking perspective arches. The two larger (outer) ones were constructed using a steel structure with offset mirror and glitter interior, and a contrasting X-dome int

UK - Ambersphere Solutions was formed back in 2011 with just four staff to look after the UK sales, service and support for Clay Paky and MA Lighting. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength, growing steadily whilst maintaining its strong support ethic.

In June 2013 lighting manufacturer Robert Juliat came on board and just over a year later Ayrton joined the Ambersphere family. Likewise, from the original team of four, the company's West London base is now home to a much larger workforce and is still recruiting.

Sales director Philip Norfolk explains: "We are very proud of our reputation for delivering the very best in sales, customer support and service so expanding our team was a vital ingredient in maintaining or even improving the level of service we offer to all of our customers."

Most recently, Ambersphere has taken on an additional five pe

UK - London-based creative technology expert Realtime Environment Systems Ltd (RES) has provided the media server know-how in collaboration with LM Productions and Mapp3D Producciones for a 'full dome' installation celebrating Mexican culture.

The temporary 25m white dome was constructed at Potter's Fields Park on London's Southbank for two weeks as part of the official Year of Mexico in the UK celebrations.
