Martin Professional Inc has announced that respected lighting designer Joe Zamore has joined Martin US as application and integration specialist. Zamore’s main role will be to assist architects, lighting designers and Martin dealers in applying and integrating Martin equipment into their lighting projects. This could take the form of product application support, specification or design assistance, or any other requirements for factory direct support where Martin products are permanently installed.

Zamore brings with him a wealth of lighting knowledge and industry connections. Proel S.p.A. has announced the appointment of Remo Orsoni to its R&D team as sound engineer and pro audio product manager for the company’s Sound Reinforcement division. Orsoni has a rich background in pro audio, having been a musician, technician, sound engineer and technical consultant. He has been involved with a number of live tours, concerts and televised events, and has recently worked as a product manager with responsibility for speaker systems, power amplifiers, analogue and digital mixers and voice systems for Italian-based pro audio manufacturers.

Orsoni was directly involved in the development of the L.i.S.A. Linear Source Array systems developed by the Laboratorio Musica Vanis Dondi, which is marketed by Proel.

PSL has appointed David March as business development manager of its Concert Touring division. Marking his return to the live entertainment industry after a spell in the architectural lighting sector, March was previously European operations manager at High End Systems, prior to which he was general manager at Vari-Lite Europe.

March will be working closely with the PSL Concert Touring team of Stephanie Jefcoate and Scott Russell, who are currently providing video and projection services for the Supertramp European Tour, the UK tours of Godspell and Sunset Boulevard, Lord of the Dance and the upcoming Gabrielle UK Tour. Proel has announced the appointment of a new sales representative to handle the Home Counties. Ian Vile joins the company having returned to the UK from South Africa, bringing with him a wealth of experience in pro audio and professional PA equipment which, the company says, will be put to good use in their expanding range of PA and related equipment, together with the FBT, B&C and Alto ranges.

In his early career, Vile played with the popular South African band, Cinema, subsequently making two albums with the group. In 1986, he began supplying Johannesburg retailers with custom-manufactured speaker enclosures and, under the brand name Vidal, became one of South Africa’s leading designers of PA systems. Later, he branched-out into PA hire and installation work.

Having spent 19 years with Lighting Technology in London, Knell held the position of export sales manager for the past three years. Knell not only brings a wealth of industry experience to the Export Team, his knowledge of export procedures is seen as invaluable.

He replaces Derek West who is leaving the company after 10 years. High End Systems has announced the addition of two key new positions to its executive management team based in Austin, Texas. David Parks joins High End in the role of senior vice-president, product development. FX Music Control, the equipment sales arm of the FX Group, has appointed James ‘Woody’ Woodburn as its London sales manager. Woody joins the company from Serious Audio where he was sales manager for two years until the company’s closure at the beginning of 2002. He is now based at the FX Group’s headquarters in East Acton and is responsible for handling all recording and post production sales enquiries in London and the South East.

David Mitchell, the founder and former owner of SIS in Northampton, died recently from cancer of the liver. He was in his mid-fifties and had been out of our industry since the early 90s.

Mitchell started SIS in the 70s as a manufacturer of NAB ‘jingle’ machines, but moved into disco lighting manufacture in the early 1980s, as well as wholesaleing for other manufacturers. Ian Brown, now of Coe-tech, was SIS’s sales director in this period, but moved on when SIS’s success enabled it to move to larger freehold premises. Unfortunately, higher overheads and bad debts led to the failure of the company only a few years later. David was well-known and respected. He was likeable, with a mischievous sense of humour. Many of his friends in the industry will regret, as I do, that his relative obscurity in recent years meant that they could not easily keep in touch with hi
