USA - Horizon Control and Engineering Arts have entered into a strategic alliance for the specification, design and implementation of hardware and software technology. Building on their informal collaboration over the past six years, they are pooling resources and developing technological building blocks for license to third parties for use in their products.

With shrinking R & D budgets, these technological building blocks can be used to both jumpstart new products and refresh current product offerings. Among the components under development are two hardware platforms - to be presented at LDI in Orlando this month - that are designed for efficient customisation and adaptation by licensees.

The first hardware platform is a networked processor component that supports Ethernet, ACN, real?time clock, removable memory, LCD touchscreen and numerous interfaces capable of handling pr

"We've been working with the Forum for a couple of years now, so we know how things work, where the pressure points are and how to handle any situations that may arise," says Wayne Grove, in charge of the venue for A.P. "However, working on an event like this comes with its own particular issues, so we plan carefully to make sure that everything is covered."

UK - The Tour of Britain is one of the highlights in the British cycling calendar. This year's race finished in London and took in some of the city's busiest areas, meaning road closures and stewarding had to be very carefully managed by AP Security.

This required closing roads on a busy Saturday afternoon, managing the thousands of people who turned up to watch and keeping an eye on multiple places where people could cross the course.

UAE - Arising from an initial contact made at the recent PLASA show in London, the Middle East's leading stage and set rental company, IBS Decor, commissioned Litestructures to design a hospitality unit for Mubadala, Ferrari's official race sponsor at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The IBS design concept called for a structure shaped to read as 'F1' when viewed from one side. This required a complex design as it necessitated the use of reverse angles of up to 70 degrees to achieve the desired profile. Measuring 14m long x 7.5m wide, and with a height of 6m, this was a substantial project, for which LitePro390-4 truss elements were utilised, clad to give the best cosmetic appearance.

Taking just three weeks from concept to completion, Litestructures, no strangers to the world of Formula 1, showed a winning turn of speed. Interestingly, the same structure has since been used for an e
