Germany - The 64th Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) drew more than 900,000 visitors. The IAA has been one of the most important trade fairs for Gerriets for many years, and the company was again involved in creating the show's largest and most spectacular display - the Mercedes-Benz booth.

Over the past several years, Gerriets has supplied a variety of extraordinary ceiling coverings for the Mercedes-Benz booth. This year, the ceiling element consisted of more than 5,000 m² of custom-dyed blue muslin. Wrinkle-free suspension of the fabric was achieved by means of a custom-engineered and -fabricated 7-ton elliptical steel ring.

All components were precision-manufactured to ensure that despite the enormous dimensions there was no difficulty incorporating the ceiling element into the venue's existing steel construction.

Gerriets worked closely with Display International to help deli

UK - Flightcase manufacturer 5 Star Cases kicks off 2012 with a new, much larger, custom designed sanding booth area at its Wisbech, UK, headquarters.

Air Bench Ltd. from Colchester, Essex was commissioned by 5 Star to specify the three new downdraught tables that form the basis of the sanding booths. They supplied two of their FN126784s and one of their FN189784 products, which extract the

The stage blacks provided to the Kallang Theatre included five stage borders, eight legs, two wings, ten dress legs and a stage backdrop measuring ten

UK - Le Mark has announced the availability of TripLine - a new safety product specifically designed for use on the front of performance stages. The system provides a discreet visual and physical barrier to the front line of the stage for both performers and stage crew.

This visual front line also has a failsafe backup in the application of a photo-luminous strip which will glow in the dark for up to eight hours without the need for an electrical power supply.

Made from aluminium box section (25mm x 50mm) and available 1m, 2m and 3m lengths, the unit can be mounted along the front line of a stage to provide a physical barrier in order to stop flightcases, stage trucks and Tallescopes from rolling over and into the

Europe - The lead up to Christmas 2011 saw Coldplay, undertake a 12-date European arena tour with their album Mylo Xyloto, taking with them a set designed by Misty Buckley and Paul Normandale which featured specialist pieces by UK-based Brilliant Stages.

Chris Martin's inspiration was of the tour as a ball of energy with a warm nucleus reaching out into the audience to provide an inclusive, intimate atmosphere despite the size of the arenas toured.

The design incorporated a crescent stage which spanned the main stage, and a cross-shaped B stage both of which were built by Brilliant Stages and delivered to Park Royal's LH2 studios for rehearsals prior to the tour's launch. The arc'd stage was low enough for Martin to run across and not obscure the sightlines of audience seated behind it, yet angled enough for those at ground-level to gain clear sight of the stunning artw

UK - The Trafalgar Sun - a new art installation replicating an early morning sunrise - brightened up London's Trafalgar Square on Monday 23rd January, a date defined by academics as 'Blue Monday' as it's apparently "the most depressing day of the year".

As an antidote to the midwinter blues, art collective Greyworld were commissioned by fruit juice brand Tropicana (as part of their Brighter Mornings campaign) to create a giant, uplifting sunrise over Trafalgar Square. It measured 9m in diameter, weighed two and a half tons and gave off over four million lumens of light, the equivalent of 60,000 light bulbs.

Andrew Shoben, founder of Greyworld said: "There are very few moments more spectacular and uplifting than watching an early morning sunrise. We have tried to capture the evocative nature of this natural phenomenon and share it with the public by creating our

DWTC rigging manager Matt Kirby commented, "I have known the guys from LTM for years and I trust their opinion on rigging and lifting. UK - Unusual Rigging has announced that, with immediate effect, all its NRC assessments will take place at the company's facility in Bugbrooke, Northampton, including any originally scheduled for Earls Court.

Robin Elias, technical director at Unusual , explains, "Earls Court is out of commission for several months this year, as it's one of the Olympic venues, and this made the booking system difficult. Unusual Rigging offers four assessment days each month, more than the other companies in the scheme, and last year assessed 55 riggers at Level 2 and 33 at Level 3.

With all the various events scheduled to take place in 2012, this year will be a busy one for riggers: Un
