France - Proving that some people will go to any lengths to procure their mixing console of choice, French sound, lighting and video company ETF-Procon recently hired a JCB to install a Midas Heritage 2000 at front of house for the Festival International des Pyrénées, Olorons Ste Marie, France.

The concerts during the festival took place at various outdoor venues, including the town square, where the front of house position was in a control room constructed above the performance area. As 800 temporary seats for the public had already been installed in the town square, access for the 56-channel console into the control room was restricted. Heads were put together, and it was decided that the easiest way of delivering the console was through the rear window of the control room.

The remainder of the equipment, which included a Midas XL250 for monitors, was delivered to the squa

Australia - Only the second time it has taken place outside Edinburgh in its 55-year history, a landmark production of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo was recently staged in Sydney's Aussie Stadium with a cast of over 1,200 performers. Playing to an audience of more than 160,000 people over five days, sound reinforcement for the spectacular show featured the TiMax audio imaging system, specified by Tattoo sound consultant John Del'Nero.

In contrast to the Edinburgh event, where for several years John Del'Nero has used TiMax to subtly move amplified content alongside the natural acoustic output from the bands, the sheer scale of the Aussie Stadium required a different approach. Fully amplified moving audio images were created to track the various marching bands as they traversed the length and breadth of the massive stadium in front of a life-size replica of the famous Edinburgh C

FOH engineer Iain Slater and monitor engineer, Alistair Artingstall, are both enthusiastic about the performance of the Sennheiser products. Iain commented on the mic setup: "We are using e935s on main and backing vocals, for Tom and Tim, and they are working out very well. Opened in December 2004, the £70 million Norman Foster-designed home for music and musical discovery is a fitting first for the highly flexible console which is equally at home on monitors or at FOH.

The Sienas were specified by The Sage Gateshead's head of technical operations, Chris Durant, who was so confident in the new console that he placed the order before it went into production. Midas and Klark Teknik brand development manager Richard Ferriday, together with Sean Hames from Midas dealer LMC Audio which supplied the consoles, paid a visit to Durant last May armed with a confidentiality agreement and the first full-scale layout drawing of Siena. Once Durant and senior technician Dan Adams were assured that the new console would fulfill the

Being individually powered they are also incredibly flexible, and if required we can easily delay certain areas wit

UK - The Fuel concept, created by Richie Warren, is part record company, part dance culture and very much a bass-heavy roadshow - utilizing an XTA-controlled Funktion One sound system built into a pair of American muscle cars. The Fuel Roadshow visits major auto and music events across the UK and Ireland, with their two Dodge Challenger sound-system cars - rigs that look, sound and feel incredible, according to Fuel. In January 2005, Fuel went indoors and installed a Funktion One sound system into the Medicine Bar, part of the

UK - The new Siena console has already lived up to the Midas legend by making an early appearance with Mr Robert Plant, who performed at the annual MAS Records evening at Kidderminster Town Hall.

Plant is a patron of MAS Records, which was set up to provide expertise and resources for the development of music, and has close ties with the community in the Kidderminster area, where Midas is based. Although Plant has attended the annual MAS event in the past, this was the first time he'd performed. This year's event was being filmed for a DVD, with proceeds being donated to the Artist Legacy Fund, an organization that provides talented musicians with support to promote and develop their work.

"Because it was being filmed and recorded, and featured such a high profile singer as Robert, MAS needed high quality equipment, and this is where Midas came in," says Kevyn Gammon

The Maya Club, located in a converted warehouse, has seating room for around 1,000 people, which includes the balcony areas. Six CDR 108 cabinets were rigged at each side of the stage at a height of 6m, with the IL 8.1s positioned so they provide coverage for the front tables. The system is powered by one VX 1200 and nine VX 2400 power amplifiers, and is

Belgium - EML Productions has begun a two-year programme to replace all the processors in its inventory with IX 48 Intelli-X Speaker Management Systems from Apex. The upgrade represents a substantial investment in floating-point processing technology, with 28 Intelli-X units arriving in the first phase of the programme, rising to a total of 50 units.

In previous years, EML has been using BSS speaker management systems, but, according to Patrick Demoustier, the older generation of fixed-point processors is now struggling to deliver the processing power demanded by line arrays like the Adamson system used by EML. After an extensive period of researching the market, Demoustier has chosen the new Intelli-X digital speaker management processor, which tested just ahead of a comparable unit from Australian manufacturer Lake Technology.

"The decision was guided by three critical
