Supplied by Terry Tew Sound & Light to the show's broadcast sound supervisor Andy Tapley, the four Shure SM63 mics in pink have been in use since 2001.
"Andy and I discussed what would be the best mic for the 4 Poofs," says Terry Tew, "and I advised him that the SM63s would be the right product to cope with their microphone technique. The fact that they've used the same ones for the last nine years is testament to the fact that we got it right."
Now the four mics are to find four new homes via four separate e-bay auctions, which will start at 9am on Wednesday 14 July following the recording of Ross's last show, which will air on Friday 16 July, and will run for a total of 10 days.
Each microphone will be signed by its Poof and mounted on a plinth. It will be accompanied by a signed individual and group photo of the 4 Poofs, plus a letter of authentication from Terry Tew confirming that it is the original microphone used on Friday Night With Jonathon Ross and was used on the last show.
"We are delighted that the 4 Poofs, Jonathon Ross and Terry Tew have chosen to support the children and families of Great Ormond Street Hospital," says Martin Harris, Great Ormond Street Hospital's regional fundraising manager for London.
"The hospital welcomes around 200,000 patient visits each year, treating patients with the most complex, life-threatening or life-limiting conditions. Our amazing supporters help us to continue treat sick children from across the UK and the world."
