UK - A.C. Lighting's Special Projects division has supplied and installed the background audio system for the newly refurbished Wembley Arena. The world famous Wembley Arena is London's must play venue, attracting the most legendary artists in the music industry. The venue re-opened to a sell-out concert on 2 April following a fifteen-month, £35 million refurbishment programme.Improvements to the new look Arena's interior include new auditorium seating, promoter hospitality facilities for up to 200 people, crew catering for up to 60 people, a backstage bar and a 200 seater public restaurant and bar.

A.C. Lighting was contracted by Wembley London Limited through Stace Project Management to provide the background audio system for the building's five separate sound zones, including specification and supply of all equipment, custom built AV racks, electrical power and data cabling, trunking, routing and programming.

To allow staff direct access to music sources in each zone, A.C. installed separate rack-mounted Denon multi-changer CD players and QSC RMX amplifiers in the backstage bar, backstage hospitality, public bar and public restaurant zones.

Sources are connected to a Sound Web Lite 8/8 digital audio management system in the backstage area providing audio processing and routing between zones, with user control in each zone via a Shrimp remote source select and volume control panel.

As a hard-wired solution was required for connecting the sound sources in the public bar and restaurant zones at the front of the venue with the audio processors in the backstage area, A.C. installed over 2800m of Van Damme installation series cabling to provide power and control to the two zones.

A.C. specified various Turbosound speakers to provide the best possible sound coverage in each zone, all manufactured in custom white for discreet installation. The system includes four Impact 80s in the backstage bar, twelve Impact 80s in the hospitality suite, two Impact 50s in the crew catering facility, ten Impact 50s in the public restaurant and four Impact 80s in the public bar.

A show relay system using two Shure MX 392 boundary microphones was also provided to enable staff in the crew catering area to monitor on stage activity pre and during events.

With installation of the background audio system scheduled to take place during the final stages of the building works, A.C. worked to a strict budget and deadline to complete all work in time for the re-opening.
