Singapore - An extensive ADB Lighting control and dimming system, along with 12 ADB WARP Zoom Profile Spotlights, has been installed at the heart of the lighting rig at the recently-opened Genexis Theatre at Fusionopolis in Singapore.

The iconic Fusionopolis research and development complex houses an array of research organisations, high-tech companies, government agencies, retail outlets, and serviced apartments in one location. Planned by Zaha Hadid, designed by Kisho Kurokawa and developed by the JTC Corporation, Fusionopolis's Phase One contains 120,000sq.m of space, with the egg-shaped, 572-seat Genexis Theatre suspended between three multi-storey towers.

ADB's Singapore distributor, Audio Light Asia, supplied the lighting systems, for which a major requirement was flexibility to cover the many potential configurations of the multi-purpose space. Access to the lighting rig is via a wire tension grid, with motorized winches used to position lighting bars over the main performance area.

The main house lighting console is an ADB Phoenix 10/XT with 512 channels/instruments, with an ADB Mentor/XT backup desk, and the lighting system is fully networked using ADB's Netport/XT and an ArtNet digital network.

12 ADB WARP Zoom Profile 12°-30° spotlights provide the flexibility of ADB's endlessly-rotating four-blade shutter, accurate fingertip control and high light output.

Dimming is provided by three types of ADB Lighting Eurodim 3 dimmers - 335 channels of 3kW dimming, 57 channels of 3kW non-dim and 61 channels of 3kW un-switched dimming to control follow spots.

Thomas Tan, managing director of ADB's Singapore distributor, Audio Light Asia, says, "Fusionopolis is an incredible project, a unique mixture of talents in one place. We worked closely with the main contractors and the electrical contractors, and the consultant was very pleased with our selection of equipment. The project was very successful for us and we are delighted to have been involved."

The theatre itself is the work of Arup, with consultants Theatreplan and Singapore architects WOHA. Designed to host the full spectrum of events from music and theatre productions to corporate events and presentations, Genexis - conceived as an experimental theatre rather than a conventional theatre auditorium - also features fully retractable seating on air castors, a highly flexible motorized lighting grid, acoustically controlled interior and an extensive AV system.

John Whittaker of Theatreplan comments, "Audio Light Asia recommended the ADB equipment, which both met the spec and does the job very well, and they were a pleasure to work with."
