Stenger-Technik, ADB’s distributor and consultant office in Austria, is currently installing a large lighting control system for the new Stadthalle in Graz. Austria’s second largest city and the capital of the Styria region, is currently preparing for its role as cultural capital of Europe in 2003 and the events to be held in the course of the next year require the city to provide adequate performance spaces with up-to-date facilities.

The modern and multi-functional Stadthalle is intended to host a wide range of events: Stenger-Technik worked closely with the client and architect Klaus Kada on the lighting control system for the venue. The installation will include a full range of ADB lighting control desks with ISIS software (Phoenix 10 and Phoenix 5 desks) running on Ethernet software. The Ethernet signal is distributed via 7 Netswitches to a total of 9 Netgate (XT) units. These latter provide for the DMX outlets distributed around the building which connect to different DMX1990 lighting units. 4 DMX inputs and 4 DMX outputs are available on each Netgate. The user can further control pre-programmed macros on the Netgate XT, connect switches and see the video output of the ISIS control on a standard SVGA monitor. All lighting control desks are remote controllable by infrared transmitters and receivers.

This installation also covers the house and working lights system, controlled by S²MS, ADB’s Architectural Lighting Control System. The unique use of a CAN Bus system provides the client with a flexible wiring solution on a single data line. The client can then choose from different types of user interfaces including custom-made pushbutton panels, touchscreen devices and also ADB’s Phoenix control via ISIS.

The Stadthalle will also be equipped with 6 Erack dimmers and 7 Memorack and Memopack dimmer units for portable use. All dimmers have been equipped with RCD and MCB devices to achieve the highest electrical safety possible. The open architecture of the system creates a very flexible solution.
