According to Adlib director, Dave Kay, the company had been seeking to upgrade their monitor systems for quite some time. "We were looking for two things in particular," observed Kay. "Firstly, we wanted to upgrade our processing to a feature set capable of handling the ever-increasing demands made on our monitor systems. Major tours and stage shows are becoming more and more complex, and artists are more demanding than ever before, so monitor systems have to keep pace if you want to keep your artists happy on stage. We were reaching the limits of our current processing solution, so it was time to change.
"Secondly, we were looking for a lightweight amplifier that could match the low frequency output of our classic Crown VZ3600s. The PLM devices with their built-in Dolby Lake processing offered us the solution to both of these quests in just one single unit."
"In fact," continued Kay, "the Dolby Lake processor already forms the core of our FOH processing, so it was an obvious choice to deploy this proven technology on our stage systems. Dolby Lake technology has the most user-friendly interface on the market and most people already know how to use it, so the introduction of PLM on our monitor systems should be a smooth transition."
Kay also highlighted a number of PLM's unique features as being of particular interest: "We especially liked the loudspeaker "fingerprint" [load characteristics] contained in the LoadLibrary which allow us to configure the PLMs for any of our loudspeaker types. It offers excellent real-time performance monitoring as well as giving us valuable data on how the PLM has been used. As a result, performance is increased and the risk of failure goes down exponentially. Finally, we mustn't lose sight of the fact that it's a fantastic power amplifier from one of the world's top manufacturers, and it sounds great! It also happens to be only half the weight and take up half the space of most competing amplifiers, so you gain from that point of view as well. PLM is definitely a revolutionary concept and we're looking forward to being amongst the first to take advantage of it in the UK!"
