This year’s tournament – held from 25-28 May– saw Sweden’s Alex Noren emerge victorious on 11 under par 277, following a sensational final round 62 which saw him claim his ninth European Tour title. It also saw Arena Group return to transform the structures around the prestigious course.
Jamie Birkmyre, director of championship management and championship director of the BMW PGA Championship, says: “Arena Group has amassed a wealth of experience over the years understanding the requirements of the European Tour which underpinned them being selected through a competitive tender process to supply temporary infrastructure across the UK, Spain, Portugal and to The 2018 Ryder Cup in France. We are confident they will help us deliver a series of outstanding, memorable tournaments.”
Grahame Muir, Arena UK & Europe CEO states: “This project highlights the strength of our expanded Arena Group, with recently acquired Arena RIM Scaffolding working alongside our structures, seating, interiors and furniture companies to support the European Tour’s delivery of a stunning event.”
Arena Structures account director, Simon Marsh and his team installed over 10,000sqm of high-end temporary structures, befitting in high standards to meet the event organisers’ requirements for the new Rolex Series. Linked to the 18th Green grandstand, Arena Structures installed a double deck 1,200sqm contemporary hospitality environment overlooking the course, complete with an Arcus roof for improved spectator viewing, with a full upper floor helping organisers increase dining capacity on last year’s open mezzanine layout.
Arena Seating supported organisers with a number of additional installations including media commentary boxes, spectator viewing platforms, a Players’ Tunnel and a temporary bridge taking players off the 18th Green over a public access walkway to the recording area. Arena RIM Scaffolding assisted with supplying over 3km of scaffold sub structure to support the hospitality structure installation.
Enhancing the spectator and tournament brand experience through contemporary interior design, sister companies Spaceworks and Well Dressed Tables supplied 6,769 items of hospitality furniture and event dining accessories, creating world-class temporary hospitality event environment.
