Germany - With origins dating back to the early 17th century and almost 40,000 students, the University of Hamburg is Germany's fifth largest University, and prides itself as Germany's "gateway to the world of Science."

As part of the University's ongoing refurbishment programme, ShowService GmbH, the German distributor for Australian pro audio manufacturer ARX Systems, has now completed the supply and installation of two new audio systems for the University's ESA B and AS auditoriums.

The 5.1 audio system in the cavernous ESA B auditorium comprises five SPL 12 self-powered loudspeakers providing Left-Centre-Right and stereo surround program and a single SPL 18 self-powered subwoofer for low frequency reinforcement. A single SPL 8H compact self-powered loudspeaker was installed in the lecturer's desk as a listen monitor/foldback monitor.

In the not-so-cavernous AS auditorium, a smaller 5.1 system was installed, with five SPL 8H compact self-powered units and an SPL 18 subwoofer for low frequency enhancement. According to Showservice's Bertin Krompass: "The University could only provide a very small installation window due to their busy academic schedule. With their minimal cabling requirements and flexible flying options the ARX SPL series was the ideal choice for the required fast installation turnaround."

He continued: "The SPL-generated 5.1 soundfields have impressed all those involved; the new systems sound very warm and accurate."
