The Top Up year is focused on management and will provide insight into the key issues involved in the strategic management of large events, festivals and venues.
The course will provide a progression route for students who have successfully completed the Academy's Foundation Degree in Live Events Production, or other related level 5 qualifications.
It will also be suitable for people with industry experience who are looking to enhance and develop their careers, as well as gain a degree qualification.
Said Director of Courses, Robin Watkinson: "Personal and professional development is emphasised and encouraged during the programme along with employability skills and a commitment to continuing professional development.
"The modules reinforce the programme's vocational nature and are designed to teach students to design, develop and deploy management strategies over key areas within the live events sector for a successful event management career."
The course delivery structure is designed to be compatible with students being able to maintain employment in the sector throughout the course, with one day per week at the Wakefield facility for the first three months.
Students on the BA (Hons) Top Up Degree will study modules titled: The Music Business, Production Planning & Management, Logistics, Work Experience and Dissertation/Project.
"Students will examine the roles of management and develop the team-working, decision-making, negotiation and communication skills needed to effectively manage within the music and events sector.
"They will study organisational structures and issues related to the industry, and look at the function and interaction between the various creative and technical facets of the sector."
The course covers the planning, licensing and permissions process, site and venue surveys, budgets, creative proposals, logistics, supply chain management, legal and governmental issues, documentation requirements, environmental impact and risk.
"Having the right attitude and interpersonal skills is very important in the live events industry and the course will also teach students how to develop their leadership, management and team-working skills to enhance their future roles as managers and leaders," explained Watkinson.
As with all Backstage Academy degree courses, emphasis is placed on industry engagement and practical experience. Students will be given the opportunity to work on a range of industry based practical projects (including working in the LS-Live production rehearsal arena), in addition to attending manufacturers' training on a range of equipment and software, and masterclasses by industry professionals.
