The LED bar and ‘caged' dance areas.
UK - An LED solution to an unusual interior design challenge has been devised by three experienced nightclub industry professionals - lighting specialist Ian Kirby (of Lighting Effects Distribution), project coordinator Shaun Doyle and interior designer Graham Taylor of Easy Design Solutions. Collectively they have devised a brash, stylised 1970s/80s interior for The Nightclub Company's new Bamboogie music venue concept, annexed to their Creation nightclub in Brighton.

Doyle invited both Taylor and Kirby, with whom he has worked many times in the past, onto the project - and the latter has delivered an intelligent LED solution, which was installed by Ken Morgan of K Morgan Electrical Ltd. "When the Nightclub Company were outlining their idea for the new concept, I told them the only guy they needed to talk to for the lighting was Ian Kirby," declared Doyle. "He worked to the budget and specified the gear."

The piéce de rèsistance is the ring of two-metre RGB vertical Marveon LED tubes which form a glass-mirrored 'caged' dancing podium in the form of a reflective curved pod, with a pole running through the centre. "The way the Marveon LED tubes, fitted with diffusers, function with the 600m sections of glass, moving to the beat of the music, is just stunning," says Doyle. Overhead are Alkalite Riva 80 LED downlighters, while facing this is an illuminated dancefloor, installed by TMC.

At the bar more solid stabs of colour have been provided by Lighting Effects Distribution. Eight-metre lengths of red and blue 'FlexLED' strips give the bar back high definition and visibility while a further seven Alkalite Riva 80 LED downlighters provide a wash over the counter. All the LED effects are run from their own controller. "We wanted strong, static effects to give Bamboogie its own identity and allow it to trade independent of Creation. Prior to that it was little more than a party room annexed to the discotheque," says Doyle. "Ian Kirby has certainly helped to deliver this and the bar now meets all the conceptual and operational requirements."
