The Reading-based company was contacted by the German office of production company George P Johnson, after they received a call from Nissan. Blinding Light's Paddy Stacy took an outline brief late on Wednesday afternoon which was to create a car showroom environment in the Hotel's Kings Suite for a series of presentations the following Monday and Tuesday.
He prepared the quote, designed and drew the lighting plot and kit list and sent these to George P Johnson for approval. They loaded in at 2 a.m. on the Monday to be ready for the first show at 10 a.m.
Blinding Light supplied over 200m of trussing that was laid out on the floor, and then lifted and rigged into the roof using 20 chain blocks. The four cars were lit with a combination of discharge and tungsten lightsources to reproduce a basic showroom ambience.
The various banners and branding around the showcase areas were lit with a selection of standard generic lightsources including ETC Source Four Zooms and Strand fresnels with half CTB colour correction to make everything blue. The sharkstooth backdrop supplied by Nissan was illuminated and jazzed up with 14 Martin Professional MAC 700 moving lights and Studio Due CityColors.
"The get in and rigging went exceptionally smoothly," reports Stacey, adding that the Blinding Light crew worked closely with the German crew to get the show on and maximise their extremely tight time slot.
All lighting was controlled from an Avolites Pearl, loaded with a sequence of pre-programmed cues and babysat by a Blinding Light technician for the duration.
