Blitz provides a complete sound solution for the stage show. Phantom of the Opera is notable for its pioneering use of Sennheiser radio mics, now a West End standard, as well as sound designer Martin Levan's first use of open Tannoy loudspeaker drivers. Today, as 130 cast, crew and orchestra members are involved with each performance, the show demands a large volume of high technology to work in concert.
Having worked with Phantom of the Opera since its inception, Blitz has adapted with the musical over time, supplying new equipment for two major refurbishments in 1994 and 2004 to keep up with the changing nature of the theatre sound industry technology. Over the last 20 years Phantom has received more than 50 major theatre awards from around the world, and has been seen by an estimated 80 million people worldwide.
As Paul Hutton, managing director of Blitz says: "We are delighted to be celebrating our 20th year of work with Phantom of the Opera which has evolved into an iconic theatre production. Blitz has provided a wide variety of creative technical solutions over the years to keep up with the changing design briefs. The challenges of supplying a production with a complete sound solution for 20 years are of course numerous; however, with continual innovation we have been able to supply the most advanced technologies to keep up with the demands of the West End."
Alongside Phantom of the Opera, Blitz has a well renowned West End presence, working on a variety of musicals including Dancing in the Streets and We Will Rock You, and most recently it has supplied the brand new show, Daddy Cool which opened on 21 September.
