Italy - Next to Normal has been one of the most successful musicals on Broadway in recent years. The production has now arrived in Italy thanks to the far-sighted planning and production of the STM (musical theatre school) in conjunction with the Compagnia della Rancia (Rancia musical theatre company).

The musical made its debut as a preview on 7 March 2015 at the Teatro Coccia in Novara with a cast of professionals from the Compagnia della Rancia directed by Marco Iacomelli. The scenery was designed by Gabriele Moreschi, costumes by Carla Ricotti, choreographies by Gillian Bruce, and lighting by Valerio Tiberi.

Next to Normal started in 1998 in the United States as a workshop lasting just 10 minutes. Ten years later, it was a short step from the first Off-Broadway performance to its final seal of approval on Broadway itself. The musical made its début at

UK - PLASA (the Professional Lighting and Sound Association) has outlined its current position in the wake of various recent changes, and asked for Members' feedback on its next steps as it moves forward into a new phase of its existence.

Speaking at a meeting for PLASA Members held during the PLASA Show, John Simpson, PLASA Governing Body chairman and chairman of the White Light Group of companies, said, "Without doubt our major issue this year has been that of diminishing profit, which has led to a critical cash-flow problem for the organisation.

"We have taken action in implementing cost-cutting measures across many parts of PLASA, including reduction in staff, putting the Eastbourne office up for sale and a substantial restructure of the organisation. We have overcome the immediate cash flow problems for 2015, but will be limited in services we can provide during

Sweden - After years of working with other products, Fremlab decided the time was right to invest in a bigger system, both as replacement for some older equipment but also to open new business opportunities and enable them to offer a higher level of quality to their customers.

After taking time to consider all available options Fremlab came back to KV2 with Carl Fredrik Malmgren, Fremlab's CEO, explaining, "One of the main reasons for choosing the VHD System, besides the obvious superior sound quality, was both the reliability of all the other KV2 products that we have been using for almost 10 years now, as well as the extremely easy set up and plug and play capability that VHD offers. All this, accompanied by the flexibility that a point source solution offers for both indoor and outdoor events, related perfectly to the needs of our rental and event business."

Mark Oppedijk of Aukes agrees that Leopard was a huge improvement for the festival. "This is one of our largest audio projects on a continuing basis, and Leopard performed far bet

Italy - Seventeen years after his death, the music of Lucio Battisti - one of Italy's best-loved singer/songwriters - is in greater demand than ever. It is kept alive on stage by Gianmarco Carroccia, singing, interpreting and paying tribute to his legacy.

In late August Carroccia's current Emozioni (Emotion) tour played a major outdoor show in the city of Fondi, where a comprehensive Yamaha and Nexo system was appreciated by 6000 passionate Battisti fans.

Carroccia bears an uncanny resemblance to Battisti and, alongside him, the three-hour music and speech recital in Fondi's Piazza De Gasperi featured 18 musicians and Giulio Rapetti, aka Mogol, Battisti's friend and songwriting partner from 1966 to 1981. Technical production was by Sperlonga-based Remix Sound, under the watchful eye of company boss Riccardo De Simone.

Denmark - ETC's Danish dealer Bico has replaced 40 ageing and energy-inefficient halogen fixtures which light the stage tower of the Royal Danish Playhouse - with just 17 ETC Selador Desire D60XTI Lustr+ LED fixtures.

Bico's lighting designer Hans Henrik Schmidt says, "Originally, the tower was lit by some 40kW of lighting; the management were keen to reduce power consumption, so cut that by half, but were then, of course, disappointed with the output quality.

"After talking to us about how they could obtain the same high quality of lighting, but with lower power usage, we offered them 17 of the outdoor ETC Desire fixtures, which use a combined total of little more than two kilowatts."

Using an ETCnomad system, Schmidt was able to create a look that could be stored directly in the Desire fixtures. At night, all that the end users need to do is turn on the powe

Website Code - A code of good practice aimed at websites that resell tickets is to be drawn up following "continuing uncertainties" about the secondary market. The code is being developed by the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers with the aim of providing a "reliable guarantee" that customers gain entry to the event for which they purchased tickets, or receive a refund.

Although it is still being developed, STAR said the code could include prohibiting the listing of speculative tickets by sellers, details of a resale agent's policies and procedures if an event were cancelled or postponed, and the creation of a "trusted environment where customers feel confident in listing tickets".

STAR already operates a code of practice for the primary ticket market, with the proposed code for the secondary market aiming to provide "similarly high stand
