Over 20 man-years' of development time has gone into SAM software, say Cadac, with the latest release providing integrated support for all Cadac consoles and products, as well as cross-console compatibility and conversion facilities for seamless show portability. SAM is freely available to any interested user, via the Cadac website.
SAM's ability to support multi-lingual operation was a priority for Cadac's Philip Jones, explaining: "In order to get the best out of any system, you need to be able to use iteasily and intuitively in your own language. This requirement set us thinking as to the best way of making SAM more accessible, involving some extensive changes to the Unicode text that have now been incorporated in this latest release. By working with our team of international distributors and their local users, we have been able to create Mandarin andGerman versions as a start, ensuring that all terms are translated appropriately and colloquially. This is a real benefit to users worldwide and we expect to see other language versions coming on line very shortly. The other major development involves the multi-console control facility. SAM can now be operated both as a completely standalone system and as thecontrol centre for multiple frames. If you could find a venue capable of taking eight frames of J-Type, SAM would have no trouble in controlling it!
"SAM is amazingly powerful automation software that reflects real-world working practices and requirements. It has evolved over many years with continuous input from our global family of users, creating the uniquely flexible platform that it has become today. We have a lot more new ideas in store, with the aim of finding ways to ensure that our users' investment inany Cadac console is maintained over many years. SAM provides the tool to extend and enhance existing facilities, through the addition of new functionality and features. It is also the bridge between our acclaimed analogue console designs and our next generation digital products, as highlighted by the D16 Digital Input Mix Matrix and the M20 remote controlled microphone amplifier. These are exciting times, as we progress towards truly integrated analogue and digital product operation, without any compromise of audio quality or performance."
