Engineer Charlie Jones had originally specified a Midas XL4 from audio suppliers Showtec of Singapore but, in the event of it being unavailable, was happy to go with the combination of a Heritage 3000 with a Legend 3000 as an additional FOH console for orchestral sub-mixing. "I'm very familiar with the Heritage 3000, so that was no problem at all," said Charlie. "However, the Legend was a new beast for me so I had to spend a little while familiarizing myself with the concept of split faders and EQ, and the fact that the logic differs somewhat from the Heritage. However, once I got used to it, I enjoyed using it, and both desks performed very well in the extreme heat and humidity of Cambodia."
Less than a week later Charlie was at the Royal Albert Hall in London for Christmas with Jose Carreras and special guests Becky Taylor and Claire Sweeney. He again opted for a Heritage 3000 at FoH, this time supplied by Sound Hire, although there was no Legend as sub-mixing was not required in this instance. "I am happy to use Midas consoles whenever I can," stated Charlie. "They are great-sounding, intuitive boards, and of course the Midas EQ is legendary. They're also pretty rock solid. Yet on the rare occasion when something does go wrong, the level of technical support is simply second to none. We had one instance in Cambodia where we needed to get in touch with the factory, and I must say, all credit goes to service manager Karl Brant for his patience and persistence. We were thousands of miles away in a fairly unsophisticated part of the world, yet thanks to great factory support, we had the matter resolved within the hour. That deserves a gold star in my book!"
