Hale started his lighting industry career as a freelance programmer, operator and service engineer, working mainly in clubs, and worked freelance for a short time in the US. His previous employment at Martin UK included work as a service engineer/programmer and product manager for lighting and control. He also worked in Martin's educational program, Martin University, and was involved in planning and setting up of exhibitions for Martin UK and worldwide for the company's headquarters. Hale has extensive programming experience having programmed numerous large shows and several large nightclubs including Amnesia in Ibiza. He worked at Martin UK for over seven years before going to Coemar UK as technical manager.
