Greece - Christie partners AVC Productions recently provided complete technical support for a multi-venue Global Symposium on Vision Correction in Athens, on behalf of McMenemy Hill Live Communication, whose client is the eyecare specialists Bausch & Lomb.

Working with Bausch & Lomb's appointed communications agency McMenemy Hill, AVC supplied reinforcement for fifty presenters over the three days, using four of their newly purchased Christie (SXGA+) S+12Ks. These 12,000 ANSI Lumen, 3-chip DLP devices projected in 4:3 aspect ratio onto two butted displays, were soft-edge blended to create a widescreen canvas measuring 6m x 2.37m.

Fitted with 4.5-7.3:1 long-throw lenses, the S+12K's, ground-stacked at the back of the room on 10ft Dexion mounts, were able to provide the perfect solution, delivering razor sharp images over the 22m distance, and capturing the stunning detail of the source material.

The four Christie S+12Ks were used in pairs (main and back-up) while a further pair of Roadster S6s were operating in a breakout room.

"We needed the extra punch that these projectors could deliver and they certainly didn't disappoint," said AVC's project director, Phill Pearce.

To handle the soft edge blending, AVC utilized their EventiX system from AnalogWay, and their own control software enabled them to run eight inputs, which included main and back up Powerpoint feeds from three Locations and two video inputs - a YUV from a three-camera PPU and a composite feed.

Purchased at the beginning of this year, the S+12Ks have become AVC's new high-end projector in a Christie inventory that has steadily been building since the days when Christie was known as Electrohome.

The event in Athens, designed to bring opticians and customers up to date with the latest eye care and contact lenses, was anchored in two conference rooms at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel in Athens, with satellite venues used for additional workshops.

The main presentations took place in the largest conference room (annexed by the breakout room and foyer) and one smaller, for which AVC provided full IT support, with built-in networks.

They were also tasked with facilitating a cocktail event at the Balux Bar and Restaurant and a gala dinner at the Byzantine Estate, working with local suppliers, and providing an assortment of plasma displays, sound reinforcement and band PA.

In addition, AVC designed all the background imaging, using high-powered graphics machines. They also produced all elements of the Set and stage, from conception of the design to the finished article - right down to the steeldeck.

Summing up, Pearce said that the Bausch & Lomb event had represented a simple point and shoot task for the S+12Ks. "But then I expected nothing else. Christie projectors in general are so reliable and they go on forever. Aside from the quality, what swings it in favour of the brand every time is the company's willingness to be flexible."

In addition to the S+12Ks, AVC Productions also run two Roadie 7000s, two Roadie X10s, six S6s, four S+12Ks and an assortment of LX Series projectors.
