Saudi Arabia - A squadron of Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 700s and Clay Paky Sharpys lit up Jeddah's Laylati Hall during a celebration to observe International Civil Aviation Day.

Egyptian lighting designer Mohammed Gafar created a lighting rig that emphasised the aerial agility, precision and speed of aviation today, which comprised fast moving, super-bright Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 700s and pure beam Sharpys.

"I chose to use the Alpha Spot HPE 700s and Sharpys for this particular event because we wanted a discreet light source that would deliver maximum effect when required" explains Gafar. "We were keen for the event, which was a sit down dinner and presentation, to look dramatic and exciting and reflect recent achievements of civil aviation. Lighting was used to set the mood and atmosphere of the room but also to enhance and punctuate the video presentation. In particular I used the Alpha Spot HPE 700s for colour and gobo projection onto the ceiling and the Sharpys for aerial effects, pattern projection and drama in the room - it looked amazing."

Rhythm Media Production, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, supplied the Clay Paky fixtures for the event.

"We are delighted to see our most discreet yet powerful, feature rich fixtures being used at such a prestigious event," comments Alberico D'Amato, Clay Paky area manager for Middle East. "Especially given that Mohamed Gafar used the fixtures in such an imaginative and fitting manner. Small, lightweight but extremely powerful, both the Sharpy and the Alpha Spot HPE 700s offer superfast and precise 360 degree movement, sharp punchy light output, a wealth of effects and colour along with precise beam control. Both models are ideal for events such as the celebration of International Civil Aviation Day where a designer might want to keep the source of the lighting effects discreet but at the same time deliver impressive lighting effect and maximum visual impact."

International Civil Aviation Day is annually observed on 7 December to raise awareness of the importance of international civil aviation and the role that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) plays in international air transport. The organisation is a United Nations (UN) body responsible for developing international standards for aviation safety.
