Both the Junction bar/restaurant in Notts and Royston Leisure Centre in Herts feature multiples of the Programme series, powered by QSC amplification, optimised in the BSS Soundweb DSP, and providing the operators with local control via the BSS remote wall panels.
Situated at Kirkby-in-Ashfield, the once traditional Ritz Associates-owned Junction has now moved upmarket, and playback is handled via four Wharfedale Programme 80's and eight Programme 32's, split between the restaurant/bar and separate pool and snooker room.
Originally owned by the Mansfield Brewery, the 450-capacity venue is food oriented by day, and after dark broadens its appeal to a younger crowd. Jason Lee has used a Cloud zoner to route the hard disk-generated background audio source to the main bar, moving the sound more uptempo in the games area.
Over at the Royston Leisure Centre a combination of Programme 32's, Programme 50's and Programme 80's has been specified for the health and fitness club. Working again with AVL, Concept AV assisted with the design and layout while the former detailed the CCTV and visuals for the main gym, periphery and back of house areas - all of which feature Wharfedale enclosures. All Sky and Freeview boxes are linked in with the six audio sources, which are routed around the complex via a Cloud 8-in/8-out Z8 zoner.
Finally a large, 650-capacity Greene King sports bar in north-west London known as The Hendon boasts numerous pool tables, split into separate rooms.
Once again AVL carried out the installation of a system designed by Jason Lee, who remained mindful of the fact that the venue would revert to heavy DJ-generated dance/R&B at the weekend.
Here he has used a combination of four Wharfedale SI-12's on the live stage, in combination with two Twin-15/XSB for the low frequencies. Elsewhere eight Programme 50's and eight Programme 80's, powered by QSC and controlled/routed to the six audio zones through the Soundweb matrix to provide even coverage throughout.
"This is a chameleon venue," explains Lee, "hard disk driven during the day when it operates as a sports bar, and more punchy in the evening."
Asked why he chose Wharfedale's Programme and SI series, Lee responds, "Originally the decision was budget led but as you start using this kit more and more you increasingly realise that budget has nothing to do with it. The Programme series stands up in its own right on the high street and I feel entirely comfortable knowing that it will always do its job. The same goes for Wharfedale's SI series, which we use regularly."
