The doors have opened for day two of PLASA Show 2019 at London Olympia, with Platinum Sponsor Robe, Silver Sponsor d&b audiotechnik and Technical Sponsor Hawthorn. The show floor is already brimming with business as visitors explore the latest products and solutions from 220+ brands from across audio, AV, lighting, rigging and staging.
The show’s platinum sponsor Robe have unveiled an expansive theatrical stand based on the classic 80s movie, Back To The Future. Live performances run every 90 minutes, with a viewing area on the show’s gallery level for visitors to watch from above. The creative duo behind the stand, Nathan Wan and Andy Webb, comment:
“Robe’s stand this year features a fully time coded show called ‘Return to the Future’ which is centred around a time travelling DeLorean car. During the show we smash through over 550 cues in eight minutes. It’s all about showcasing the new Esprite which is future-proofing LED moving heads as you can take the source out and simply replace it. This has absolutely been the most ambitious production that we’ve done to date, and it’s great to see on social media that many visitors come to PLASA Show just to see what we’ve come up with. We’ve been working on ‘Return to the Future’ for three months and it has been an absolute delight to see it all come together.”
Other lighting highlights include, Claypaky demonstrating their new Xtylos fixtures in an immersive enclosure, Ambersphere presenting the SpotMe from Robert Juliat and the entire Titan family from Astera, including the PLASA Gold award winning Titan Tube, and Artistic Licence have launched the rackSplit octo, the first in their new ‘skinny rack’ range. Furthermore, A.C. Entertainment Technologies are presenting over 20 brands including six PLASA Award nominated products including Prolights’ PixieWash XB and Mosaico XL and BroadWeigh’s highly anticipated Bluetooth.
On the Entedi stand, visitors are checking out the Proteus Maximus and Artiste Monet as well as the new NX 4 console from Obsidian Control Systems. ETC and High End Systems are here with the TurboRay and SolaWash 100 lighting fixtures and the Eos and Hog 4 consoles.
“The ETC Augment3d has gone down really well which is being showcased to a UK audience for the first time” says Cat Shepherd from ETC. “Also, our ‘Tech Talks’ have received a large uptake of visitors, offering something for everyone. So far, the show has been friendly and vibrant the whole time.”
For audio professionals the new HD96 console from MIDAS is making an impression at the show on the SFL stand, allowing hands-on encounters with the new desk.
SFL’s Harvey Appleton comments, “There’s a lot of buzz about the new MIDAS HD96 console, attracting all types of visitor, from freelance engineers to directors and production managers. Many have commented about the console’s processing power and new effects as well as the price point.”
The d&b audiotechnik A-Series is making its UK debut on the SFL and SSE stands. Furthermore, their B8 subwoofer and D10 Audio Network Bridge are making their PLASA Show debut. Elsewhere, Coda Audio are busy showing their recently launched two-way arrayable point source, N-APS.
Area Four Industries are presenting the latest staging and trussing products from Milos, Litec, JTE, EXE Technology and Xstage. Triple E are presenting a brand new prototype and Doughty are chatting with visitors about their new Fifty Clamp and boom arms. Also on the show floor, MDG are celebrating their fifth anniversary of MDG Fog UK, demonstrating their haze generators and new flight cases.
The expanse of audio demos at this year’s show features three dedicated lounges for L-Acoustics, RCF and Sound Technology, where visitors have been soaking up the latest sounds.
Nick Boggon of Sound Technology comments, “Our audio lounge has been brilliant with a stream of people all day. It’s been great to demonstrate products at proper volume. Feedback has been particularly positive for the JBL VTX A8 line array.”
New for this year is a live stage with entertainment from emerging artists performing live acoustic sets throughout the day, and ‘Stage to Studio – Recording a live band’ with upcoming vocalist Effie performing while being mixed by Simon Todkill who gained recognition working with Kanye West.
The ‘Blackout Installation’ by GSA lighting tutor Mig Burgess made its show debut, booking up well in advance.
