Black Coffee were sub-contracted by Kingston Sound in Durban to supply the lighting equipment which included 46 Robe fixtures. A relaxed atmosphere prevailed, especially thanks to enough time to tour from city to city as the team visited the Rhema Church in Randburg, City Hill Church in Hillcrest and His People Church N1 City, Cape Town. In Port Elizabeth, the full technical was supplied by Magnetic Storm.
"Apart from the rented truck having a blow out on the way to Cape Town, which the rental company attended to extremely well and which meant the kit still arrived on time, there was no major stresses," said Simon Hampton from Black Coffee. "The biggest challenge, really, was trying to replicate the original design in venues not really suited to something of that scale and working within the budget. The lighting designer, Robby Kurtz from Sightline Productions, USA, was very accommodating in this regard."
The gig incorporated 20 x Robin 600 LED Wash, 20 x Robe ColorSpot 575s, six Atomic Strobes, eight 8 Lite Molefay, eight ETC 15/30 Profiles, eight 1K Philips Selecon Rama Fresnels, three Avolites Power Cubes, two Le Maitre MVS Hazers and one Martin M1 desk (sub-hired from Solid Rock).
"I was well impressed with the reliability of the 575s," commented Hampton. "The Robins 600s were bright, light and quick, and the Avolites Power Cubes most handy."
