Spain - Renovation of an early 20th century building which was once the main slaughterhouse in Valencia recently transformed the building into a point of reference for cultural and athletic facilities in Valencia's capital city. In keeping with current demands and needs, the complex's nearly 13,000sq.m have been appropriately refurbished to adapt to a variety of athletic and cultural activities.

Among many attributes the complex boasts a magnificent multi-purpose hall with room for more than 300 people and an integral professional sound system provided by D.A.S. The system was installed by Megafonía Torres, S.L., industry pioneers with over 60 years' of professional experience in the sector.

Like many auditoriums or halls with a similar layout and acoustic profile, the use of compact array speakers was an ideal set-up in order to achieve optimal levels of sound pressure and coverage.

Megafonía Torres, S.L. technicians Jorge Torres and David Pedrero led the sound installation project, and recommended that centre managers install D.A.S. Variant compact mid-high array systems. D.A.S. Audio's Engineering and Sound Projects Department provided support for the project.

The main sound is provided by 12 D.A.S. Variant 25A speakers, which have been paired with two Variant 18A subwoofers, to provide low frequency reinforcement during musical events realized in the hall. The installation also features two side-fill speaker systems from the D.A.S. Avant series, version Avant 12A. These speakers, presented to the market for the first time this spring, incorporate the latest 3rd generation Class "D" amplification technology. The principal system is completely self-powered, receiving its corresponding signal via two D.A.S. DSP-26 digital signal processors.

Coverage of the front rows relies on D.A.S. Arco Series systems. Four Arco 24 systems were built into the front of the stage, giving a very clean sounding front fill. This two-way system features 4" double speakers, and receives its signal via two D.A.S. Powerpro series power amplifiers, specifically the PS-400 model. Completing the installation, the control cabin features two D.A.S. studio monitors (Monitor 6), a Yamaha MG16 6FX console and three "Selected by D.A.S.", Ambient 31.2 equalizers.

"The Pechina Athletic and Cultural Complex boasts top-of-the-line facilities, all around, but it stands out especially for its magnificent Concert Hall, which features a potent sound system of marked versatility, reliability and quality - the characteristics that clients have come to expect from D.A.S," says the company.(Claire Beeson)
