When the need for a new sound system arose, well-known sound designer Derrick Zieba was asked to make an assessment. "We were really fortunate to have the input of a leading professional like Derrick," said Andrew Smith, the School's technical manager. "He was so generous with his time and expertise that we feel really comfortable about the outcome. He suggested we consider a d&b audiotechnik system." After researching various options, and consulting with d&b's John Taylor, the school purchased a d&b C7 System with E3s, MAXloudspeakers for monitoring and D12s and E-PACs providing amplification. "There really was no other choice," said Smith. "d&b are considered to be a standard in musical theatre, and they provided us with a good solution which fitted within our budget."
The system, sponsored by the British Record Industry Trust and supplied by leading audio specialists Entec Sound & Light, will be used in a variety of configurations for dance and musical theatre productions, which will be designed by the students themselves. "The school does a great job in preparing young artists and technicians for the future," said Entec's Dick Hayes. "It is a pleasure to be associated with such a project."
