DCS 6000 voting units at the EU Commission in Brussels.
Denmark - Danish Interpretation Systems (DIS) has introduced the latest incarnation of its Digital Conference System, the DCS 6000, which handles up to eight active microphones plus 32 different language channels simultaneously - all tied together with standard Cat 5 cable in a fully digital high-speed communication bus - the proprietary DCS-LAN developed for digital audio and data distribution. The total capacity of the system can be enhanced for up to 4,000 microphones and interpreter units and an unlimited number of channel selectors, say the company.

The CM/DM 6560F are fully digital microcomputer controlled conference units with loudspeaker and illuminated microphone mounted on a semi goose-neck arm. The units support a three-button voting facility and a chip card reader for identifying the user of the system, and come in either chairman or delegate versions. The high-quality loudspeaker is automatically switched off when the microphone is activated, and the microphone is equipped with an illuminated red ring on its head to identify the speaker (the ring is clearly visible even in broadcast lighting, say the company).

This unit has also one built-in channel selector with 32 languages/channels, volume control and an LCD for displaying of language/channel numbers or volume. The CM/DM 6560F units offer full compatibility with the DCS 6000 Digital Conference System. The CM/DM 6510F version is configured without the channel selector.

The DCS 6000 Conference Management Software runs on a PC and a new module adds voting control facilities to the application. Before the meeting the system administrator may want to register all delegates, control the voting sessions and create a number of voting setups - such as secret voting, delegate weight, number of buttons to be used and how to show elapsed/remaining time. The delegates can cast the vote using a PC with the CUA application or using a DCS 6000 voting unit, and results can be displayed either on the PC screen or shown on a large screen projector by using the Conference Display Application, CDA. The results are also stored in the database and can be displayed or printed out at any time. The voting units, including the conference management software, have recently been installed at the EU Commission in Brussels.
