David knew that with the varied kit used on each job, any solution would have to be adaptable and so sat down with Doughty's Dan Phillips to come up with a modular trolley system that could be easily adapted.
David explained, "I have always known Doughty to be an effective engineering grip company, so contacted Dan to see if it would be possible to figure something out between us. We drew up a few sketches which he then developed into technical drawings. It became apparent straight away that Doughty had more knowledge of the engineering of the trolleys we needed than any other company I'd approached. The real challenge was to size up the trolleys so that they would fasten securely and fit through standard doorways."
The result is a trolley that will carry equipment onto the trucks and deliver it safely and effectively. David continued, "There really is no end to their applications. We have already used them on several jobs and have configured the trolley differently each time to suit the job. In fact we are still working with Dan to develop the trolley further and add new features as we expand."
Doughty's Dan Phillips added, "As with many of our products, which begin their lives as a one-off in response to a customer request, we've now added the trolleys to our product range. The entertainment industry has been producing bespoke welded trolleys and dollies for years, but the majority has been kit-specific, fabricated at some expense to move a single item and then bulky when it came to storage.
"The Doughty range allows the user to construct their own trolleys from readily available components, adapt them as necessary and dismantle them when not in use, so they take up little storage space."
David concluded, "The team at Doughty really do listen to their customers. They are knowledgeable, approachable, efficient, experienced and adaptable to change and this comes across in the design and manufacture of their products."
