Created by Peter Swann, the entrepreneur behind the successful Sands Jazz Club in the same town, the spacious State Club resides in the totally renovated shell of a former cinema. In its new guise it makes abundant use of the space to offer four venues in one - nightclub, live music venue, café/lounge and digital cinema.
The main stage hosts live acts and, using its retractable 20m screen and dedicated DLP digital cinema projector, daytime movie screenings. It is flanked by a pair of ground stacks of Dynacord FX12 mid-high tops from the XA range that focuses sound on the dancefloor, with a row of eight matching FX20 Planar waveguide bass horns built in below the stage.
The design team, led by State Club technical engineer Ashley Talbot, Electro Music's Jason Gardener and Mark Bromfield of Dynacord distributor beyerdynamic UK, also specified a second pair of FX12 mid-high tops either side, facing inwards from the rear of the dancefloor. These provide a complete dancefloor surround sound system for club nights, and can be switched into true 5.1 surround mode for cinema screenings. In command is a compact rack of Dynacord XA4000 Class-H system amplifiers.
For delays and in-fills into the bar and lounge area behind the dancefloor, Dynacord D12-3 way full range cabinets are wall mounted and driven by three Dynacord CL1200 linear power amplifiers, providing independently controllable levels from discrete, low profile cabinets.
Stage monitoring for live acts comprises eight Dynacord M12 stage monitors, powered by CL1200 monitor amplifiers and processed via DBX 266A limiters, along with Alto 30 band graphic equalisers, a wide range of top brand microphones and, as at front of house, an Allen & Heath console.
A pair of DJ booths that overlook the dancefloor from either side feature Dynacord D15-3 15-inch three-way monitor loudspeakers with CL1200 linear power amplifiers. Up at the front of house mix position on the third, highest balcony, at the heart of the club's VIP area, are two more audio systems - both featuring Dynacord D12-3 3-way full range cabinets and CL1200 amplifiers. One pair of D12s provides monitoring for the main mix console position while the other, with Sub115 laminar vent 15" subwoofers, covers the adjacent VIP dancefloor.
