Both the audio and lighting have been supplied and installed by EAW's South African distributor, Johannesburg-based audio specialists, Surgesound. The audio rig comprises four EAW Avalon DC4 full-range loudspeaker systems comprising two 12" LF speakers, one 8" MF speaker, a single 1" exit compression driver each, along with four EAW Avalon DCS2 subs featuring EAW's advanced horn-loaded technology, which maximizes horn length in a relatively small enclosure. The DCS2 subs offer dual heavy-duty 12" woofers that provide an SPL of 137dB per unit. The entire audio system is processed by an EAW 2-in 8-out MX8750 digital processor and powered by four Lab Gruppen fP touring series amplification systems. A Sabine digital delay EQ system has been used for the surround system, which includes six EAW Commercial VR61's all powered by EAW Commercial CAZ 1400 amplifiers. The DJ mixing controller is an Allen & Heath XONE:464.
"An upmarket venue such as The Manhattan requires audio quality that matches the club's image," says Surgesound director, Andrew Rowan. "We have installed a state-of-the-art system using tried and tested components from world leading audio manufacturers, EAW and Lab Gruppen. The result is an audio system that is incredibly high-powered, yet does not compromise on sound quality in any way. Patrons can be assured of a crisp, clear sound, but at the same loud enough to ensure a truly dynamic nightclub experience. Furthermore, the quality of the components and the design architecture of the installation make the system extremely reliable and durable."
