Ireland - EPIC Ireland is the first digital-only museum in the world, featuring 20 multi-media galleries where visitors are immersed in the history of the Irish Diaspora, through Epson's state of the art projector technology and a range of other unique AV installations. Located in the brick vaults of The CHQ building in Dublin's Docklands, EPIC Ireland is a dramatic interactive visitor experience, showcasing the unique journey of Irish people around the world.

Working with Epson and Rockbrook Engineering, one of Ireland's largest systems integration firms, EPIC Ireland has installed 33 EB-G6970WU installation projectors which enable visitors to have a truly immersive experience in the museum. The projectors are a powerful 6,000-lumen WUXGA installation projector with 3LCD technology, and have been used to create impactful displays of each theme of the exhibition in superior clarity.

The exhibition also features projection mapping, multi-touch tables, sensory equipment and clever use of lighting to showcase the vast amounts of content on display and the remarkable Irish tales for visitors. Over €1 million worth of cutting edge technology and AV equipment has been invested in Ireland's newest multi-media interactive exhibition.

Throughout the EPIC Ireland exhibition, the attention to detail in design and the quality of technological delivery is the first thing that strikes visitors. Epson was awarded this contract based on a blind projection test by the key project management team of EPIC Ireland. The team chose the Epson EB-G6970WU 3LCD installation projector unanimously for its superior quality, clarity of imagery and immersive experience in a wide space, such as a vault. The use of Epson projectors also resulted in a significant cost saving for the client, in comparison to other professional projector manufacturers.

Each installation was designed with different methods of interaction in mind, allowing multiple users to interact with projected information at the same time. For example, the 'Notorious Irish' interactive device enables visitors to view content based on where they are standing in this particular vault. Through the use of Epson 3LCD projectors and other key sensory equipment, when a visitor stands on a certain spot in the vault, a specific villain from Ireland's past appears on the wall with their history on display.

Conal Harvey, Vice Chairman of EPIC Ireland commented on the technology, "EPIC Ireland is a diaspora museum and visitor experience which tells the great story of the Irish people throughout the world. EPIC is a unique example of a truly innovative exhibition space, led by cutting edge technology and is unlike any other exhibition in Ireland or the UK at present.

"EPIC uses state-of-the-art digital interactive technology to present the stories to our visitors in an entertaining way, while staying true to the story of these people, both famous and infamous. There is a high level of complexity and technology in the installations; for instance, managing audio dispersion throughout the many vaults was a difficult task, with so much digital media delivery in close proximity."

Charlotte Hone, product manager at Epson said, "As the world's number one projector manufacturer, we're continually looking for ways to push the boundaries with our projector technology. A big focus for us this year are museums and other public spaces, therefore EPIC Ireland is an important installation for Epson and helps to establish Epson as a top player in the installation market."
