USA - The world's largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference, Lightfair International (LFI), returns to Las Vegas this May featuring a line-up of seminars and courses which the organisers say are strategically designed to educate and inform attendees on the industry's latest trends and innovative ideas. UK - Exhibitors at The Event Show have declared the 2008 exhibition a resounding success with almost all mentioning the very high quality of visitors as the defining factor, say the organisers.

Over 4,000 people attended the Olympia show over the two days. Michelle Tayton, manager of The Event reports, "So often we hear claims of significant increases in visitor numbers year on year to exhibitions, but this really is irrelevant if those people are not serious buyers. There are only so many people working in the industry and our visitor list reads like a who's who in events and these people have actually placed orders during and straight after the exhibition.

"We have fulfilled one of our main objectives to deliver revenue straight into our exhibitors' pockets, which has resulted in a 20% increase on re-bookings for next year's Show."

UK - Harman Pro UK is beginning a regular series of free industry training sessions aimed at improving PA-related knowledge amongst retailers. Known as the PA School, the educational initiative follows on from a successful masterclass held at last year's Harman Roadshow, and aims to give sales assistants and staff at audio retailers throughout the industry a more thorough grounding in their understanding of PA and sound reinforcement basics.

The sessions will take up an afternoon, and will cover everything a retail assistant should know - from assembling a PA for a variety of applications and budgets to actually miking up and soundchecking various types of live acts, from a lone singer/songwriter to a multi-piece band with drums and amplified guitars, basses, and keyboards. By the end of each PA School session, attendees should know everything they need to sell a live rig to a s

UK - It's been a week of awards ceremonies for the international staging specialist Stageco. As the proverbial curtain fell on Sir Paul McCartney and all the other winners at the Brit Awards this Wednesday, Stageco were starting to dismantle several enormous structures they had erected at Earls Court for the internationally broadcast ceremony. Earlier in the week, as they were building the Brits, Stageco had won a respected industry award for their work.

The company worked with show producers MJK Productions to build three separate projects, turning the blank canvas of the empty Earls Court floor into a world-class venue.

Although this is the 12th year Stageco and MJK have worked together on the Brits, the event always presents new challenges. In 2008 the venue had a split tenancy with another event, offering late access to parts of the hall, meaning much of the work had to be

UK - On 12 February, one of Central China Television's (CCTV) most popular programmes, The Same Song, hosted a concert in London's Westminster Central Hall. The concert's theme highlighted this summer's Beijing Olympics, is part of a world tour and featured many of China's top names including Chinese-American singer Kris Phillips, known in China as Fei Xiang, as well as British opera singer Alfie Boe. The show, which will also be visiting Toronto, New York and Los Angeles, is one of CCTV's most popular offerings, with audience figures estimated to be around 100,000,000 when it was aired the following weekend.

"The brief for this show was quite vagu

Dubai - Companies participating at the upcoming PALME Middle East exhibition in Dubai found to be infringing copyright and patent protection legislation will have their stands closed or their products removed, organisers IIR Exhibitions have announced.

PALME is taking a tough stand against the copycats to support legitimate companies in the professional audio, light and AV industries whose long term investment in product development and branding is threatened by the counterfeiters.

Dubai-based group director of PALME, Neil Hickman, said: "Original manufactures and their authorised agencies exhibiting at our shows are understandably upset that copycat manufacturers are allowed to exhibit at certain other industry events. Having suffered ourselves from copycat events, we fully appreciate the considerable investment in research and development, not to mention the marketing b

DP224s also featured in the slave racks used for the Adamson T21 subs, as well as for the ground-stacked loudspeakers that consisted of eight Y10s. Eight Adamson SpekTrix and four SpekTrix bass were used as out-fills, once again managed by DP224s. And for lipfills, four SpekTrix were

UK - PRG Europe has supplied lighting for the relit Tosca at London's Royal Albert Hall, which ran until Sunday 9 March. It was lit by Andy Bridge, who says, "Although this is a reproduction and relighting, it needed a lot of refining. A lot of the equipment we used nine years ago is no longer in normal use, so we had to go to PRG Europe's demo studio with the show file and lighting plots, and compare old with new - a mammoth task."

Bridge, who worked with assistant Mike Odam, is using Vari-Lite luminaires, as well as some 200 ETC Source Fours with Wybron colour scrollers, on the show. The moving light programming was by John Harris on a PRG Europe-supplied Wholehog II, while static lighting is by Dan Last on a Strand 520.

"Nine years ago," continues Andy, "we still preferred not to rely on moving lighting, but now we can be more confident about

Germany - ADB Lighting Technologies will preview its new flagship in dimming technology, Euyrodim Twin Tech, at Pro Light + Sound this week. Eurodim Twin Tech allows Sine Wave dimmer modules to be freely mixed with cost-efficient Thyristor dimmer modules in a single cabinet.

Mixable in any proportion up to 128 x 3 kW or 96 x 5 kW channels, divided into 32 plug-in modules, each module has a 63A supply protection for optimum safety. ADB's R&D team made this possible through the development of an Assisted Ventilation system that provides high efficiency cooling and ensures continuous and reliable operation up to the nominal power of 600A per cabinet, says the company.

Eurodim Twin Tech also incorporates new remote operation facilities which provide both multi-user remote dimmer channel assignment via wi-fi PDA's, and remote dimmer diagnostics over IP.
