UK - Triple E's ModTruss is being deployed as the 'universal building system' for the Theatres Trust stage, the Technical Theatre Awards/USITT stand and the Technical Theatre Awards stage at PLASA this year.

Triple E launched ModTruss - best described as full size Meccano - in the UK market at the ABTT Theatre Show in June 2015. It was immediately recognised as 'Engineering Product of the Year' at the ABTT Awards.

UK - SSE Audio Group has announced the development of a successor product to PROSIGHT, which was the first laser inclinometer product designed for setting the angle of speaker line arrays.

UK - RC4 Wireless is showcasing its RC4Magic-DMXpix at PLASA Show 2015. A nominee for the PLASA Awards for Innovation, the RC4Magic-DMXpix is a tiny wireless DMX driver for pixel LEDs. It runs two separate pixel strings with customizable multi-channel profiles to create beautiful pixel effects utilising up to 3000 output channels.

UK - The eighth Knight of Illumination Awards (KOI) ceremony was held on Sunday 4th October at London's glamorous art deco Troxy to sparkling success.

Once more it saw representatives from the professional entertainment lighting and video industry come together to celebrate the creative achievements of lighting and video professionals working on shows across the UK.

The ever-popular awards, organised by The Association of Lighting Designers (ALD), The Society of Television & Lighting Design (STLD), The Fifth Estate Ltd and Clay Paky, was established to offer public recognition for outstanding achievements in touring, television and theatre lighting and video design.

This year, 31 products were nominated for the Awards for Innovation & Sustainability, with eight awards presented, including a final Gold Award for Innovation.

The winners had to satisfy the judges that they demonstrate a new style of thinking, that they improve technical practice, have introduced new technologies, materials or techniques, that they feature patents or unique intellectual property, offer a new commercial advantage, or improve safety.

UK - Today at PLASA Show 2015, expert Media Trainer Ian Hider will present two sessions on the Lighting Showcase as part of PLASA's popular seminar stream. The sessions entitled 'How to use lights' and 'Top Tips on Lighting an Interview' are presented by Ian Hilder who worked for the BBC for 29 years as a cameraman and comes to PLASA to share his tips on efficient, effective and creative interview lighting, as well as to impart invaluable advice on BS7909.

The first session focuses on the BS7909, the BSI British Standards 'code of practice for temporary electrical systems for entertainment and related purposes' - the lighting equivalent of the 'Highway Code' how everyone using mains lights in the UK should work. Ian Hilder will give an outline of the code, advice and top tips for small shoots wanting to use mains lighting.
