Gefen has recently released two new ex-tend-it switchers: the 2x1 HDTV Switcher and the 4x1 HDTV Switcher. Both expand the functionality and compatibility of HD displays by allowing them to access two or four digital video sources - supporting home theatre, multimedia presentation, entertainment, education and similar audio/video applications by streamlining systems behind the scenes.
In operation, they enable one HDTV display to access either two or four digital video sources at any time without unplugging and replugging devices. Installation is simple and requires the user to plug the video sources into the Switcher, then connect the Switcher to the HDTV screen. Both HDTV Switchers are designed to switch between sources at the press of a button, either on the unit itself or through the IR remote control, maintaining the clarity of the high-definition images during switching.
Critical to their long-term effectiveness, both HDTV Switchers are fully HDCP (high definition content protection) compliant, meaning they will work with all specially coded HDCP devices. HDCP was devised as a method to prevent illegal video content copying. It's an internal encoded standard endorsed by the entertainment industry and must be correctly decrypted by authorized devices in order to function properly. Both units come with fibre optics and audio cables for connection and are compatible with all satellite set-top systems and DVD players that offer HDTV, as well as plasma and digital displays that are HDCP compliant.
