HES' DL2.
USA - Entertainment lighting manufacturer High End Systems debuted the DL2 - the third generation in its digital lighting line - at the ETS-LDI 2004 Trade Show in Las Vegas last week (22-24 October). According to HES, the DL2 unites the worlds of automated lighting and digital video to create 'virtual scenery' but with additional advanced features. DL2 is a "smart" automated lighting system featuring an integrated digital media server, say the company. In one single package is housed a light engine, media server and content - and it hangs and acts like an automated light.

DL2 also reduces space and installation time, with no need for RGB cabling, and servers are no longer necessary at the front-of-house position. DL2 resembles an intelligent moving luminaire and controls just as easily, with plug-and-play operation using standard DMX cabling and protocols.

Its many features include Digital Eye (infrared illuminator) as standard; Wireless DMX; Wireless media content management system; Ability to import 3D object images; 2 object layers (2D or 3D) and one mask layer; Software based on Windows XP and DirectX; Rotation and movement synchronization between DL2 units; Movie playback synchronization between multiple DL2s; DMX control of camera functions (zoom, focus, orientation, shutter speed and white balance); Full colour display and preview monitor/menu functions; Iris for full black-out; Tiling with different viewpoints; Edge-blending for creating montages; Colour swap effect - trading colour values; Custom-created library of digital art; Magnifying effect; Multiple play modes and speeds; Scaling of objects on X, Y and Z axes; Full colour mixing; Keystone correction; Ability to change viewing angle/perspective on images; Remote video input switching; 400° pan, 270° tilt; DMX control of zoom and focus. Upgrades are available remotely and the unit weighs in at 49kg.

High End Systems digital lighting products have been specified on a variety of applications and installations, from concert tours and corporate shows to cruise ships, nightclubs, TV shows and houses of worship.
