Germany - Stars of German stage, screen and music walked the red carpet at Leipzig’s Messe Halle 1 for the Golden Henne awards ceremony, with tvONE's Green Hippo brand of Hippotizer media servers on video duty.

Some of Germany’s biggest stars performed at the gala, on a stage backed by a 32m LED screen and a LED floor, which dominated the proceedings. Producer MDR Fernsehen (Television) worked with content design agency Lupixx to create individual content for 15 acts, with a brief to showcase the country’s best entertainers with glamour and an upbeat, celebratory vibe.

Media technology solutions company ICT supplied two Hippotizer Tierra+ MK2 and three Hippotizer Boreal+ MK2 Media Servers to power Lupixx’s creative ideas.

“We created mood boards and discussed ideas with the producers and the director of the show and brought them to life with Notch as our main software,” says Lupixx’s Saskia Olma. “As it wasn’t necessary to do the show in real-time, we rendered the content for the floor and the back walls in QuickTime Notch LC. We connected each song’s stage design to our visuals to create unique backgrounds that enhanced the artists’ performances.

“The power of the Hippotizer Media Servers meant that we didn’t have to slice our content to the different LED walls and floor – we could simply render one composition, which was a huge time saver.”

Among the performers on the night were Schlager singer Roland Kaiser, veteran musician Peter Maffay, and singer-songwriter Kerstin Ott. MDR viewers chose their favourite artists in the categories of music, sports, acting, entertainment, newcomers and online stars. In addition, jury prizes are awarded in the areas of charity, politics, everyday heroes, our future and life's work. The ceremony and performances were broadcast on MDR.

“The Hippotizer system worked smoothly as always, and we are happy to work with such an incredible hardware that always has our back, even with last-minute changes,” adds Olma.

Saskia Olma was creative director for the production, with Vlad Befus as Notch designer, Pia Sun as motion designer, Enrico Walther as video operator and Stefan Rausch as server farmer.
