Designed by the celebrated Catalan architect Lluis Domènech i Montaner, the Sant Pau Recinte Modernista is a complex of buildings erected in 1902 in what is today downtown Barcelona. The fully restored Modernista pavilions, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, now house the historic archives of Hospital de la Santa Creu, a former infirmary dating back to 1401, a health info center, and an arts center that hosts all kinds of events from conferences and training to presentations and corporate parties.
The most handsome room in the Sant Pau Recinte Modernista administration pavilion is named after its architect Lluis Domènech i Montaner. Featuring plush appointments in period style, the 170 m² venue may be rented for events involving 40 to 200 people. On demand, it can be provided with the full contingent of in-house AV equipment, including a screen, projector, microphones, and so forth.
This arsenal's centrepiece is an HK Audio Elements system consisting of two E435 mid/high units and a Big Base component on each side.
"Vitelsa, the company responsible for deploying the sound systems in the Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, chose the Elements systems for the Lluis Domènech i Montaner room mainly because of its elegant and unobtrusive design," said Marc Rovira from the Spanish HK Audio reseller Adagio Pro. "Its audio quality, range and especially the fact that the system is so easy to carry completely convinced the Vitelsa team. Permanent installation was not an option because the building is landmarked, but with the Elements systems a compelling solution was found for this room, which hardly absorbs any reflections and has an 18-meter ceiling.
"Incidentally, the Elements system is not the only HK Audio PA in the Sant Pau Recinte Modernista Barcelona. A LUCAS Nano 300 is set up in the MIA Noble room to provide sound reinforcement for a large high-definition screen."
Adagio Pro furnished advice and assistance to the Vitelsa team, particularly with regard to setting up and adjusting the systems in the rooms of Sant Pau Recinte Modernista.
"What's more, the arts centre acquired several HK Audio Linear 5 cabinets," Rovira said. "With this portable HK Audio equipment, which may be configured to suit the given requirements, the Sant Pau people are now well equipped to handle the outdoor events that occasionally take place in the courtyard of this unique building complex."
