The brainchild of audiovisual artist and composer Stuart Warren-Hill, founder of Hexstatic and co-founder of the Big Chill festival in the early 90s, Holo-Gauze was developed when Stuart required a new type of portable holographic 3D display to tour his new 3D Blu-ray and CD project, Holotronica. He needed it to be easy to tour and more affordable than Peppers Ghost holographic solutions - it costs £350 per metre.
"It is often said that the best inventions are born out of necessity," explains Stuart Warren-Hill. "I'd looked at other solutions, but they were too expensive and trickier to tour and to install. Holo-Gauze is not only much, much more cost-effective, it's a breeze to setup and is incredibly believable - especially on stage. It's basically a game-changer. We've already had a lot of interest in Holo-Gauze, ahead of the launch, with more huge projects to follow."
Such has been the interest in Holo-Gauze that a couple of pre-launch 'beta' projects have already showcased the effectiveness of the system, including production of a hologram android that responded to tweets during the promotion of US TV show Almost Human and 3D effects for this summer's Ibiza residences of DJs Hed Kandi and Chase and Status. Plus, of course, for Holotronica itself, during Stuart's 2014 tour. Holo-Gauze was recently showcased at Engage Production Ltd's Holographic Display Showcase, at the company's FLUX Innovation Lounge in London.
